Al-Ummah is a national organization consisting of autonomous local Muslim communities united under a central leadership, many of the constituent communities of Al-Ummah were formerly of the Darul Islam Movement (affectionately known as "The Dar") which lasted from 1962 to 1982. The Dar was renowned throughout North America in the Muslim community for its commitment to establish Islam as a total wa
y of life in accordance with Qur'an & Sunnah. After the discontinuance of the Dar in 1982 some of the communities formerly affiliated with the Dar as well as other communities who joined the effort later on saw the need for a strong centralized leadership and the development of a viable national jamaat (community). In 1983 after many meetings and shura these leaders came together and established and recognized themselves as a national jamaat now named Al-Ummah under leadership centralized leadership. The basic features or goals and objectives of Al-Ummah is to worship Allah, dedicating one's whole self for Allah's cause. Allah has made it clear that He has created mankind and jinn only for His worship. Worship of Allah takes in every aspect of mans life including his spiritual, moral, economic and social. Hence the rememberance and presence of Allah must be reflected in everything we do. Once this spiritual mindset is established it will be easier for us to establish Islam in the land. Al-Ummah at its basic foundational core is comprised of several individual mosques and organizations that have agreed to work together in areas of common interest. The overall objective of the organization is to rid society of it's evils and to change the human condition by living in accordance with the laws mandated by Almighty God Allah. These objectives can be obtained by raising the awareness of Islam through education, instruction and other non-violent means. Al-Ummah strives to promote change in order to make a better living environment for all mankind. As Muslims, we do believe that the Shari a is the correct law for mankind as ordained by Almighty God Allah. We recognize the fact that everyone is entitled to free will in regards to their religious beliefs. We do not believe in imposing our views on anyone by oppression, force or violence
