When I tell people I have stage 4 breast cancer, they look at me like the world is about to end. Yes, there are things I have to do differently, and yes there is no cure. But advanced and targeted treatments are keeping me here to live my life with a purpose.

What is stage 4 breast cancer?
Stage 4 breast cancer is also called metastatic breast cancer or advanced breast cancer. In this stage, cancer that developed in your breast has spread to other areas of your body.

Cancer cells might have traveled through your lymphatic system to your lungs, bones, liver, brain, or other organs.

Stage 4 is the most serious and life threatening stage of breast cancer. Most often, stage 4 breast cancer develops long after a person has first been diagnosed with cancer. In rare cases, the cancer may have progressed to stage 4 at the time a person is first diagnosed.

Facing stage 4 breast cancer can be challenging. But following your doctor’s recommended treatment plan and practicing healthy lifestyle habits can help to improve your outcome. It may significantly increase your lifespan and improve your quality of life.

Week 6 - When I was diagnosed with breast cancer 10 years ago, my mother thought it was her fault. Little did she know, she helped to save my life.

My mom was diagnosed with an advanced and aggressive breast cancer at the age of 41. Her ONLY option for survival was for her to participate in a clinical trial.

One reason black women are dying at greater rates than any other ethnic group from breast cancer is because breast cancer does not act the same in all women. Without representation of black women in clinical trials, researchers cannot know whether there are specific methods or treatments that work best for women of color.

One of Praise Is The Cures missions is to educate the community regarding clinical trials. People who participate in clinical trials help improve cancer treatments for future generations.

I’m sure my moms participation in a clinical trial 20 years ago saved her life and mine as well.

Week 8 - Cancer Hurts The Hearts Of Those Who Fight From The Sidelines.....

When I was 1st diagnosed with breast cancer, it affected my whole family, ESPECIALLY THE MEN.

Often times, people focus so much on the patient, they forget about the families, the caregivers. But truth be told, when someone in the family gets breast cancer, the whole family does too.

It is estimated that in 2018, there will be 330,080 new cases of breast cancer in the US alone. In taking care of the patient, lets make sure we don't forget about the caregivers.

The men in my family, including my 94 year old grandfather, ( pictured below ) all have supported me 100%. There is no way I would have made this journey without them. They are true examples of Real Men That Do Wear Pink.
