August wasn’t just busy. It was measurable momentum.

2,794 women participated in 460 chapter events. Five new chapters opened. Membership reached 35,804 women. Website visitors climbed nearly 40%. And at Sniper School, more than half of the participants successfully engaged a target at one mile.

But the numbers only tell part of the story.

Across the country, women were building skills, developing instructors, advancing through our marksmanship programs, exploring new disciplines, competing, connecting, and showing exactly what happens when education and community create opportunities to grow.

From national training and original industry research to the accomplishments happening every week inside our chapters, August showed the growing reach and impact of A Girl & A Gun.

I started this months ago and could not get it to quite hit what I was aiming at.

So I hit up Emily LaFave. I have been following her posts for a long time. She is a fellow Marine, and I am a fan of her insight, her perspective, her analytical mind, and her writing style.

Glad I did. What I could not finish on my own, she helped me get right.

This one is about why some of us never stop thinking.

John Boyd built the OODA loop for combat. Some of us ended up running it as a way of living. Observe. Orient. Decide. Act. Then do it again.

That habit can catch the lie early. It can also invent a threat that was never there.

Seeing through a story is not the same thing as discernment. The real test is whether you can put the same scrutiny on the story you finally chose.
