We are taking bids on the north fence at the cemetery. This would just be the fence, not the top rail or the posts. We have an offer of $300. There's 750 ft of fence.

Recently there was a comment on KBRX partyline regarding flowers at the Page Cemetery.

"I think all towns that have cemeteries in Holt County should post in the Holt County Independent a notice of the days when people can or can not have flowers on graves. I have had flowers taken off of the Page Cemetery for several years in a row now, and I would like to know when I can have flowers on my loved ones graves. Also do these cemeteries have a vase only policy, and do they make exceptions for the stones that were made before vases were added."

The policy for flowers at the Page Cemetery is that all flowers NOT in vases should be removed 2 weeks after Memorial Day. There is a sign posted at the main gate. We do not make exceptions for stones that were made before vases were added. Now having said that.... the person that does the mowing for us tries to leave them in place as long as she can without interfering with her mowing duties. She tries to move them as close to the headstones as possible and mow/trim around them. It is not feasible for her to pick everything up, mow/trim, and then replace flowers for everything not in vases throughout the cemetery.

If you find you are missing flowers, perhaps another family member was picking up flowers and picked up yours? I say this because I did this to my own family member. I wasn't sure who all left flowers and I knew they should be picked up. The other possibility is the wind. We always find flowers blown up against the fence and do pick those up since we have no way of knowing where they came from. There are also flowers found blowing loose around the cemetery. Again, those are picked up as we have no way of knowing who they belong to.

Periodically we receive requests wanting to know about the status of the webpage for the Cemetery Association. We apologize for the delay, but are trying to make sure the information is as accurate as possible. We know there will certainly be discrepancies, but would like to start with the best information at our disposal. Right now we're still working on reconciling some differences with our written burial records and what we actually find at the Cemetery.

Ultimately, we would like the website to be an interactive source of information over and above just who is buried where. The plan is to be interactive with the ability to search using different criteria; to have some minimal genealogy information; and provide military records where available. We will also be providing links to view the headstones, obituaries and deeds.

We're still collecting obituaries, as a wealth of information can be derived from them.

Additionally, in the past, a copy of the deed was not retained by the Cemetery Association.

If you have access to your family records and can provide us with copies of obituaries or deeds, we would really appreciate them. A scanned copy can be emailed to [email protected] or a hard copy can be mailed to:

Good meeting last night. Reported on past and future projects for the cemetery. 2013 clean up day is scheduled for Monday, May 20th. We'll post more as the date gets closer. We're still working on the database with hopes of getting it posted on the Page website - this year ?!? Along those lines, we're always looking for more information and documentation. We're still looking for obituaries. The amount of information available from them is invaluable - marriage dates, parent names, military service dates, etc. If you have access to your family records and can provide us with copies, we would really appreciate them. You can scan and email them to [email protected] or mail them to Page Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 123, Page NE 68766. I'll post a list of the ones I already have on hand. The other thing we would like to have a copy of is your deed. Do you know where yours is? We have records of purchase dates, but don't have actual copies of all the original deeds. We'd like to provide a link to a copy of the deed in the database, if available. So check those safe deposit boxes, please!
