St. Stephen's Episcopal Church - Oxford, NC

St. Stephen's Episcopal Church - Oxford, NC Episcopal church dedicated to sharing the Gospel and love of Christ Jesus. Located in historic downtown Oxford, North Carolina, St. The people at St.

Stephen’s is a small but vibrant parish dedicated to living out the Gospel by following the example of Saint Stephen, the church’s first martyr and one of the first twelve deacons. Each week we gather to celebrate the ancient rite of Holy Eucharist on Sundays, Morning Prayer on Thursdays, and Centering Prayer on Wednesday evenings. We are committed to contemplative prayer practices, creation care,

and service to our community. Stephen’s want to know and help our neighbors and the parish partners with a number of local agencies, such as Area Congregations in Ministry, the Boys and Girls Club, Murdoch Developmental Center, and Hope House. Through these ongoing worship and service activities, we try to live out our mission to share “the Gospel and love of Christ Jesus through service to our Church, community, and world.”

Hello, Friends--
Main streets in Oxford are mostly clear, but with some wet patches which will become ice overnight. Some side streets still have slush--which will also become ice overnight. Things at the church itself are not too bad, but the parking lot still has lots of snow and wet patches, which will--can you say it with me?--become ice overnight. So, we will not have an in-person service at the church tomorrow, but I am offering a Zoom option. See the links below, and if you haven't used Zoom in a while, log in early to make sure you don't need to do any updates. (This is the voice of experience talking, here.)

Just to make sure no one is happy, there will be one service offered at 10:30 a.m., which will be Rite 1 (not Rite 2). This is because the early birds get left out most of the time, and they deserve to have something that is familiar to them. Since we will not be in person, the service will be Ante-Communion, which is the regular Sunday service up to the Offertory. So, no actual communion, but the service should feel familiar up to that point. I plan to share my screen with the online version of the BCP on it, but if you want, you can view the service on one device and view the bulletin from Thursday's email on another device, and/ or use a hard copy BCP. Since this is a last-minute deal, I will just read all the lessons and lead the prayers, myself. If we were scheduling this in advance, I'd have members of the congregation do those parts. For most of the service, I will ask you to keep your computers muted. But at the announcements, I'll invite folks to speak, if they want.

Other than that, we'll play it by ear! I look forward to seeing some of you in the morning. Links and other instructions are below.

Blessings and peace--
Anna
