Congratulations to our St. Johns Country Day School Athletics Hall of Fame Inductee: 2005 Varsity Girls Soccer Team

The St. Johns Country Day School Athletics Hall of Fame proudly welcomes one of the most accomplished and trailblazing teams in Spartan history, the 2005 Varsity Girls Soccer Team.
This remarkable group forever changed the standard for excellence in Spartan Athletics. The 2004-2005 squad became the first team in school history to capture a Regional Championship and advance to the Final Four in the sport of Girls Soccer. In 2004, the team’s unforgettable run came just seconds short of a state title, falling to American Heritage School with only 1:07 remaining in double overtime of the state championship match.

But champions are often defined not by heartbreak, but by how they respond to it.

One year later, the Spartans returned with determination, resilience, and unfinished business. The 2005 team once again claimed a Regional Championship and advanced back to the Final Four, where fate delivered a rematch against the very same American Heritage team. This time, the Spartans finished the journey. In one of the most iconic moments in school history, Michelle Lavine buried the decisive penalty kick to secure a dramatic 4-3 victory in penalty kicks and bring home the State Championship.

Tonight, we honor a team that built a legacy, inspired generations of Spartan athletes, and proved what can happen when talent, perseverance, and belief come together. Please join us in welcoming tonight’s first inductee into the St. Johns Country Day School Athletics Hall of Fame, The 2005 SJCDS Girls Soccer Team!

Congratulations to our St. Johns Country Day School Athletics Hall of Fame Inductee: Jim Ising '69

Jim Ising, Class of 1969, was a cornerstone of the Spartans soccer program during a transformative era under legendary head coach R.C. “Nick” Nichols. As a defender, Jim helped anchor a revolutionary system that propelled St. Johns to its first undefeated season in 1969, finishing with a remarkable 125 to 12 goals for-against record.

But Jim was far more than just a defensive presence.
With exceptional speed and athleticism, he redefined what it meant to play defense. From his position on the back line, Jim scored 12 goals, setting a new standard for offensive production by a defender in St. Johns history.

He was respected not only for his performance on the field, but also for his achievements in the classroom and his involvement across campus. Jim’s combination of academic excellence, athletic success, and natural charisma made him one of the most admired students of his time.

Following his time at St. Johns, Jim pursued a passion for fishing, co-founding a fishing lure company with fellow alumnus Wayne Smith. He went on to become a regional vice president for the Fuji Fishing Organization and a nationally recognized authority on Fuji rod guides, representing the company at major industry events, including the prestigious ICAST fishing trade show, the largest fishing trade show in the world.

Jim Ising passed away on January 18, 2023.

While his induction comes posthumously, his legacy has long been clear. Many believe his absence from earlier Hall of Fame classes was simply an oversight, as his contributions were essential to the success of his teammates and coach during that historic era.

Tonight, we proudly and rightfully recognize Jim Ising as a member of the St. Johns Country Day School Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2026.

Please join me we in welcoming some of Jim’s classmates and teammates who are here tonight to help us honor the life, legacy, and lasting impact of St. Johns Country Day School Hall of Famer Jim Ising!

Congratulations to our St. Johns Country Day School Athletics Hall of Fame Inductee: Carson Pickett '12

It is our honor to induct Carson Pickett, Class of 2012, into the SJCDS Athletics Hall of Fame.

A seven-year varsity letterwinner in soccer, Carson left her mark on the program in ways few ever have. She is the school’s all-time leader in assists with 152, ranks second in goals with 150, and second in total points with 452. Her consistency, vision, and ability to elevate those around her defined her career from the very beginning.

Carson played a pivotal role in multiple championship runs, helping lead the Spartans to state titles in 2007, 2009, and 2012. Her teams also reached the state semifinals three times and a regional final, establishing one of the most dominant eras in program history.

Her individual accolades are equally remarkable.
In 2012, Carson was named the Florida Gatorade Player of the Year, the Dairy Farmers Class 1A Player of the Year, and “Miss Florida” Soccer Player of the Year. She also earned All-State honors and was recognized as a high school All-American by the NSCAA. Earlier in her career, she was named the Class 2A Player of the Year in 2009.

And Carson didn’t stop there.

She also competed in track and field, demonstrating her versatility and commitment to excellence across multiple sports.
Following her time at St. Johns, Carson continued her career at Florida State Seminoles women's soccer, where she was a member of the 2014 NCAA National Championship team, further cementing her legacy on the national stage.

Following FSU, Carson was selected fourth overall in the 2016 NWSL Draft and has gone on to earn multiple Best 11 honors in the league. She has also represented her country, earning caps with the United States Women’s National Team.

But beyond the accolades, Carson’s impact reaches far deeper.
She has become a powerful advocate for limb difference awareness, using her platform to inspire and empower others around the world. Her courage, authenticity, and leadership continue to define her legacy far beyond the field.
And remarkably, Carson Pickett is still competing at the professional level today with the Denver Summit, continuing to represent St. Johns with pride every time she steps onto the field.

Please join us in celebrating and welcoming Carson Pickett into the St. Johns Country Day School Athletics Hall of Fame, Class of 2026!
