Before I ever became involved in Measure the Placenta, people were already fighting to be heard by “the” ACOG… writing letters, requesting meetings, making calls, showing up again and again to get ACOG’s attention.

My very first project was joining a letter-writing campaign to ACOG. This has been years in the making.

Ann has been working for years to get this op-ed published. Years of heart, persistence, revisions, and rejection.
And now, it’s finally here, published in one of the nation’s most influential health policy publications.

I’m so proud of Ann, Sam, and Helen. This is more than an article, it’s a call to action.

Please take a moment to read and share. The more people who see this, the harder it is to ignore.

We are calling on ACOG to take action to address preventable stillbirth.

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is the most common infection passed from mothers to babies during pregnancy.

There’s no cure for CMV, but there are steps that can be taken in order to prevent spreading it, including:
-Avoiding kisses on the lips.
-Not eating/drinking after toddlers.
-Practicing good hand hygiene.

According to the March of Dimes, CMV can be passed to your baby at any time during pregnancy. But you are more likely to pass it on if you get infected for the first time during pregnancy or if a past CMV infection becomes active again, especially in the 3rd trimester. CMV can lead to birth defects and lower the likelihood of having a positive birth outcome.

Most people disappear after the funeral.

Not because they don’t care, because they don’t know what to do.

This is for every person who wants to love their grieving friend well but doesn’t know how. Save it or share it with someone who needs it.

You don’t have to have the perfect words. You just have to show up.

What else would you add?

On the journey with you 💜

Here's your monthly reminder to contact our leaders to support FY27 Appropriations to HRSA!
Ask Congress to provide $1 million to HRSA to help states implement stillbirth prevention initiatives. Lend your voice to help save lives.

Even if you sent a message last month, do it again! Each time they get a message, it logs importance. So, the more, the better!! Thank you!

🚨 1 in 175 pregnancies in the U.S. ends in stillbirth. 🚨
This is not rare. This is not inevitable. And we are not doing enough.

Behind every number is a baby lost and a family changed forever. 💔

We have the knowledge to prevent many stillbirths, but states need support to turn that knowledge into action.

That’s why we’re urging Congress to invest $1 million in the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), a small, targeted investment that can make a lifesaving difference.

Through its nationwide reach, HRSA can help:
✨ Bring proven stillbirth prevention strategies into real communities
✨ Expand access to screening and education
✨ Strengthen care in rural and high-risk areas
✨ Close critical gaps in maternal health systems

This is how we move from awareness to action.
This is how we save lives.

⏳ We can’t wait. Families can’t wait.

Freya’s family completed our 6th hike yesterday, summiting Cadillac Mountain, the highest peak in Acadia. And yeah… a moderate nature hike is NOT the same as a “moderate” mountain hike. 😅 It pushed us in all the ways and required more of us- more endurance, more strength, more heart.

Honestly, grief feels a lot like that too.

Some parts feel manageable, almost steady. And then it turns steep and rocky out of nowhere. You’re winded, your legs are burning, and the summit feels so far away. But you keep going, step by step, because there isn’t really another option.

We hiked 6 trails for Placenta Health Awareness Day. 6 is important.

At term, the ideal fetal-to-placenta weight ratio is 6.1. That balance is what helps sustain life. But Freya’s placenta was in the 0.060 percentile, a number that still stops me in my tracks.

So this climb felt like more than just a hike.

It’s about the summit, yes, but also about what we’re trying to elevate.
Awareness.
Standards of care.
The expectation that placentas should actually be measured, tracked, and understood…because they matter more than most people realize.

The trail is not easy. The work is not easy.
But neither is turning back.
So we keep climbing. For Freya. For answers. For change. 💛
