Comfortable
I never asked you to stop believing.
That would’ve been obvious.
Messy.
Too honest.
I just asked you to feel right.
You judge the wicked easily.
It makes you feel clean.
You whisper their names like prayers,
disguised as concern.
Did you hear what she did?
I’m just asking so I can pray.
You call it discernment.
I call it delicious.
You’d never curse God.
But you curse people quietly.
Under your breath.
In group chats.
In car rides where you feel justified.
I didn’t teach you hatred.
I taught you superiority.
You meant to pray this morning.
But you needed a moment first.
You meant to read the bible.
But the house felt off.
So you saged it.
Just in case.
You checked your horoscope.
Not because you believe in those things.
Just because it’s interesting.
You said, It’s harmless.
I love that word.
You don’t bow to idols.
You just flirt with them.
Admire them on television,
And worship them with their songs.
A little energy talk.
A little manifestation.
A little “God helps those who help themselves.”
You keep me entertained
by calling it balance.
You still sing the songs.
Still raise your hands.
Still know when to say amen.
They look at you and think,
They’re on fire.
But fire doesn’t need comfort.
And you’ve built a life that never burns.
You think evil looks like rebellion.
No… it looks like routine.
It looks like faith with no teeth.
I don’t rush you.
I age you.
One excuse.
One compromise.
One harmless habit at a time.
I hear every prayer you soften
so it won’t cost you anything.
Every truth you avoid
because it would require change.
Even now, you hear my voice.
Measured.
Reasonable.
Familiar.
But what you don’t realize
It’s yours.
I didn’t have to lie to you.
I just taught you how to justify yourself
until repentance felt extreme.
You think you’re worshiping God.
But you’re actually worshiping me
by worshiping yourself.
I never needed to tempt you.
I just watched you choose.
