A special word from Dr. Melissa Plamann, Professor of Music and Wanda L. Bass Chair of Organ:
It's time for our annual GIVING DAY (today and tomorrow, April 29-30)!
This year for OCU’s Giving Day, I’d ask you to consider supporting the Wanda L. Bass Chapel Organ Endowment. We are so grateful for the glorious Hotlkamp organ, housed in the Bishop W. Angie Smith Chapel. The 70-rank organ was built in 1968 by the Holtkamp Organ Company and renovated in 2018 by the Reuter Organ Company. It is played for hours every day and utilized in hundreds of concerts and services each year, both as a solo and collaborative instrument.
The OCU Organ Studio is indebted to the Wanda L. Bass Foundation, who in its wisdom created an endowment for routine maintenance. Many may not realize that pipe organs require frequent tuning, typically 3-4 times each year. This means that at some point, every single pipe in our organ is manually tuned by a trained technician. And, as our instrument continues to age, more maintenance and repair will be required.
This Giving Day, I ask that you donate as little as $1 to this fund. My goal is to win the bonus for “most new donors”—if everyone who has ever enjoyed a worship service, concert, recital, baccalaureate, memorial, Vespers, or any other event in the OCU Chapel would donate just $10, we could go a long way in securing the organ’s legacy for many years to come.
