OneVoice CircleSingers: an improvisational singing community with a spiritual attitudeβa vocal jam-fest with heart, led by David Worm and community members. 3rd Wednesday every month, at First Church UCC in Berkeley. We are a community gathering of folks who form an improvised choir under the mentorship of David Worm, with a growing core of singers who have refined their Circlesinging skills. Arts
First Oakland launched us in 2002 at First Congregational Church of Oakland the East Bay revival of an annual tradition - "Singing For Your Life" - that began with Bobby McFerrin and Voicestra at San Francisco's Grace Cathedral. Now known as Sing For Your Life, this annual event is a non-stop multi-hour choral improvisation, every year on December 30th. Our offerings expanded to include a monthly singing gathering which happens without fail, every third Wednesday of the month. Since 2008 all of our events have been organized by an all-volunteer core of community members, who took up the torch to continue presenting our monthly gatherings and the annual celebration. As OneVoice CircleSingers, we grew this tradition - over time we have renamed our core group of singers, becoming Voices in a New World as we emerged from lockdown in 2021, and now simply known as Voices. Over the years we have remained a tight-knit but always-open community, meeting monthly and sometimes more, to renew ourselves in song.
