Beloved in Christ,
After much prayer, holy listening, and discernment, we share an important moment in the life of New River Episcopal Ministries.
The four congregations that have faithfully formed NREM, Ascension, Hinton; Redeemer, Ansted; St. Andrew’s, Oak Hill; and Good Shepherd, Hansford, have each discerned a call to move forward independently. With these decisions, New River Episcopal Ministries will conclude its common life, marking the dissolution of the final regional ministry within the Episcopal Diocese of West Virginia.
This is a moment held with reverence, gratitude, and trust in God’s continuing work among us. While there is change, there is also deep assurance: the Church belongs to Christ, and Christ remains steadfast.
Plans are presently in motion and remain in flux. A Service of Closing will be held on a Saturday sometime after Easter Sunday, at a date yet to be determined. This liturgy will be an opportunity to give thanks for our shared ministry, to commend one another to God’s grace, and to entrust what has been to the promise of what is yet to come.
The final clergy schedule has now been released (and, as always, is subject to change) as our shared rhythm of ministry begins to slow and move toward its conclusion. Even in this season, we remain a people shaped by prayer, Word, Sacrament, and mutual care.
As we walk this threshold together, we do so with hope born of the Resurrection, peace that passes understanding, joy grounded in faithful service, love made known in community, and confidence that Christ goes before us.
Let us pray:
Almighty and everliving God,
we give you thanks for the life and witness of Ascension, Hinton;
Redeemer, Ansted; St. Andrew’s, Oak Hill;
and Good Shepherd, Hansford.
Sustain these congregations with your Holy Spirit.
Grant them stability and wisdom, faithfulness and courage,
continued fruitfulness in ministry,
and openness to new expressions of your call.
Root them always in your love,
and keep them steadfast in Christ,
to whom be glory in the Church, now and forever.
Amen.
Faithfully,
New River Episcopal Ministries
