Twenty-One Praises of Tārā Puja
Sundays | October 18, 25 & November 1, 8, 15, 22
10:15 - 11:15 AM Pacific

Lama Döndrup will be leading a Tara practice as part of the course on the Nine Stages of Shamatha. **You are welcome to join for the practice only. **

Please join us for a community puja of the Twenty-One Praises of Tārā, a traditional chant honoring Tārā as the swift liberator who responds to the needs of the world with wisdom and compassion.

Through the power of collective prayer and praise, we connect with Tārā’s enlightened activity of cultivating courage, clearing obstacles, and strengthening the compassionate heart while generating shared aspirations that support one another and help the wider world remember that clarity, care, and courageous compassion remain available, even in the midst of difficulty.

This gathering is offered in connection with Lama Döndrup Drolma’s Twenty-One Praises of Tārā article series appearing in Lion's Roar.

All are welcome.

New 4-Week Course!
Introduction to the Bodhisattva Path
Led by Rev. Susan Shannon
Sundays | September 20, 27 & October 4, 11
10 AM - 12 PM | Online only

This series will be a fun, informative, investigative overview of the Bodhisattva Path. We will set aside each session to explore different perspectives on what the Bodhisattva Path entails.

In the Mahayana Traditions one enters the Bodhisattva Path upon generating the resolve to cultivate Bodhicitta and dedicate one’s life completely to the attainment of Buddhahood for the benefit of all sentient beings. It is also said that this journey needs constant diligence and discipline for at least three eons, each lifetime dedicated to the practice of the Six Perfections.

We will start by exploring the Gandavyuha Sutra, where Sudhana, a practitioner fully invested in doing all he can to Awaken, describes his pilgrimage to many bodhisattvas, all who guide him towards finding “The Door Towards Discipline of the World Illumined by Dispelling the Spiritual Darkness of all Sentient Beings” aka the Bodhisattva Path.

From there we will contemplate the traditional Five Paths, said to be a succession of stages in our spiritual journey, encompassing all our lifetimes, that lead us to the goal of Awakening. We will discuss different interpretations of these, with special attention to work of the great scholar and translator Herbert V. Guenther who emphasizes that spiritual development is not a matter of destroying or turning away from anything as much as it is about rediscovering and remembering the enlightened being that is within us right this very moment. It is not a matter of attainment, but is the actual work of relating to things properly.

Throughout this course, we will also question the value of our human tendency to locate ourselves on our own map of Awakening, aways asking the question “Who, where, what is the I that is…”

Deepen your experience of the divine feminine.

For Tibetans, Tara is the most beloved of all the female awakened beings. Green Tara's primary activity is one of protection from fear and danger, and she is committed to responding swiftly the moment that we call upon her. Through visualization, mantra, and silent meditation, we deepen our experience of the divine feminine while simultaneously awakening this quality of compassion that is innate to our being, yet often obscured.

The Green Tara practice transforms our distorted view of self and helps us recognize our innate radiant, compassionate nature.
