“He is the light and the life of the world; yea, a light that is endless, that can never be darkened” (Mosiah 16:9).

Just as a sunflower’s face follows the sun from sunrise to sunset, turning its petals toward the source of light, so too should we continually orient ourselves toward the Son of God.

As followers of Christ, we can choose to bask in the light of His love and keep our eyes on Jesus Christ.

How can you bask in the light and love of the Son?

The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has shared the following Easter message:

This Easter season, we invite you to ponder the Savior’s atoning sacrifice and glorious Resurrection, which bless all of us.

Through our Redeemer, Jesus Christ, we receive this message of hope: “In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). The Savior promises that as we keep His commandments and ordinances, we will have “peace in this world, and eternal life in the world to come” (Doctrine and Covenants 59:23).

We testify that Jesus Christ lives! “He is risen” (Matthew 28:6). Because of Him, we can be guided and strengthened as we bear the burdens we face in mortality. Through our faith in the Savior’s atoning sacrifice, the bonds of sin cannot hold us and the trials that we experience in life will have no lasting power over us. “The sting of death is swallowed up in Christ” (Mosiah 16:8).

In a world filled with chaos and contention, we can find peace as we look to Jesus Christ, the “founder of peace … yea, even the Lord, who has redeemed his people; yea, him who has granted salvation unto his people” (Mosiah 15:18).

We can counteract the chaos of the world as we look to Jesus Christ and choose to be peacemakers each day.

How can you be a “founder of peace” in your family and circle of influence?

As we begin a new year, I encourage you to reflect on the Savior’s invitation to become like Him. He said, “Therefore, what manner of men ought ye to be? Verily I say unto you, even as I am” (3 Nephi 27:27). How can we follow His example and strive to increase in righteousness?

One way is to set goals that align with His will and teachings.

Setting goals is not only a practical skill but also a spiritual discipline. It helps us to exercise appropriately our moral agency, to become agents who act and are not merely acted upon, and to evaluate our progress.

Prayerfully seek the Lord’s guidance as you determine your goals this year, and consider sharing your goals with people you trust—whether that be your family, friends, or leaders.

Always remember that the Lord loves you. He will support, sustain, and help you. He said, “I will go before your face. I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my Spirit shall be in your hearts, and mine angels round about you, to bear you up” (Doctrine and Covenants 84:88).

May we all strive in 2024 to become more like our Savior. He declared, “I came into the world to do the will of my Father, because my Father sent me. And my Father sent me that I might be lifted up upon the cross” (3 Nephi 27:13–14). He redeems us from sin, saves us from death, and invites us to follow Him and partake of His joy. I bear witness of His reality, divinity, and magnificent power.

Years ago, Sister Nelson and I visited Machu Picchu high in the mountains of Perú. We marveled at what we experienced.

While we marvel at the accomplishments of men and women, all of that pales when compared with the creations and works of our loving Heavenly Father and His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ.

On this—my 100th New Year’s Day—I both marvel and rejoice at the miracle of the birth of Jesus Christ, His life, His ministry, His mission, and more.

I marvel at the miracles required for the Prophet Joseph Smith to translate and publish the Book of Mormon, and I rejoice at the Restoration of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

I marvel at the faith of devoted Latter-day Saints around the world and rejoice that I have been blessed to meet countless individuals who have made my life so much richer.

I marvel at our Heavenly Father’s plan of happiness and rejoice that families truly can be together forever.

May we strive this new year to marvel and rejoice at the privileges and opportunities our Father in Heaven and our Redeemer Jesus Christ provide.
