What happens at a GPC retreat?

Participants often arrive carrying what they couldn't set down, worry, grief, numbness, the weight of their own expectations.

What they discover:

๐ŸŒฟ That they are not alone.
๐Ÿ’› That their body holds wisdom they've been taught to distrust.
๐ŸŒธ That grace is more available than they imagined.

Contemplative prayer is not an escape from the world. It is how we learn to see it more clearly.

There are moments when the social and political landscape feels like an impasse: unmovable, exhausting, beyond repair.

George McClain names something profound for those moments: that deep prayer doesn't remove us from the impasse. It gives us the capacity to discern God within it.

Inner stillness is not indifference. It is the practice of becoming free enough to act from Christ rather than from our wounds, our fear, or our ego. Which idol is stillness asking you to release today?

This is the gift of contemplative practice: we don't fill ourselves up to pour out. We become more aware of the Source that was always flowing through us.

Go. Do. Trust what is woven in you.

"So let us boldly pray the Psalms as our prayers for social justice. As you do, I invite you to change the pronouns from โ€œIโ€ to โ€œweโ€ and โ€œmyโ€ to โ€œourโ€. The Psalms were written to express the cries of a people, not isolated individuals. "

We did not build this alone. ๐Ÿค

GPC was shaped by women who showed up before it was easy, who brought their whole selves to the work of pastoral care, spiritual formation, and healing ministry.

This month, as we approach our Founding Mothers' Legacy Appeal (launching July 2), we begin with gratitude.

For the women who prayed first. Who stayed longest. Who made space when none existed.

We honor you. We are because you were.

Stay tuned, more on the Legacy Appeal coming soon.

This one is for the ministry leaders.

๐Ÿ“… July 30 | Online
โœจ Clergy Self-Care Workshop

Ministry is a marathon. And too many of you are running it without rest, without support, without anyone asking how YOU are doing.

This online workshop is a dedicated space to:
โ†’ Explore what self-care really looks like in a ministry context
โ†’ Practice breath and body awareness tools you can actually use
โ†’ Connect with others who understand the weight of sacred work

You cannot pour from an empty vessel. Let us pour into you. Register on our website.

June is a holy month. ๐ŸŒฟ

It holds Father's Day. It holds Juneteenth (the anniversary of liberation and the reckoning of delayed freedom). It holds Pride, where LGBTQ+ and allies continue to insist on their right to exist, to gather, to claim their humanity in a world that still resists.

These are not comfortable celebrations. They are acts of defiance rooted in prayer.

At GPC, we believe that pastoral care is inseparable from these histories; from the cost of showing up, from the people still paying that cost. That healing requires us to know exactly whose shoulders we stand on, and to accept the weight of what that means.
This month, we're honoring the ones who fought. The ones still fighting. The ones who know that freedom is something you have to claim, again and again.

Welcome to June. ๐Ÿ’™

Something beautiful happens when we stop rushing and simply open.

Retreats arenโ€™t escapes from life, theyโ€™re invitations to come home to it.

This is what Opening to Grace makes possible: a space where you donโ€™t have to perform, fix, or explain. Where you can breathe. Where healing can happen.

See everything coming up at https://gestaltpastoralcare.org/.
