Centering prayer is a silent, wordless form of prayer based on teachings from the Christian tradition, following the footsteps of the mysteries and encountering God. It is a form of prayer that seeks an encounter with God and resting in His presence. In Matthew 6:6, Jesus tells us to go into your inner room, close the door and pray. Centering prayer is the spiritual practice to help us access our
inner room, close the door and pray. Centering prayer is the spiritual practice to help us access our inner room and close the door so we are in relationship and in the company of God who dwells within. After the initial decision to enter into centering prayer one quiets the mind, sits upright, and in a relaxed state of mind one enters into one's reality; where they are in the dwelling place of God. One chooses a word or phrase that redirects one to God's presence. The word itself does not have any particular meaning nor is it intended to connote any particular image. The sacred word allows one to change the flow of consciousness from the outside in. When one becomes distracted by thoughts the word reaffirms our Consent to God's presence, healing, and love. It is a prayer of repose where one rests in God and is receptive to His Grace.
