A picture of marital bliss, Marc Chagall’s "Double Portrait with Wine Glass" beautifully blends Surrealist and Cubist styles with Russian folk art.
" Chagall’s masterful Double Portrait with Wine Glass presents an image of love transcending all things. In this wedding portrait, the artist places himself on the shoulders of his first wife, Bella Rosenfeld, as the couple soar over the Belarusian city of Vitebsk. Although married two years earlier, she is pictured in her long white wedding dress. Yet this joyful picture was created in the first winter of the Russian Revolution, an event for which Chagall had conflicting emotions. Initially, he worked for the Bolshevik cause, helping to set up an art school in Vitebsk, but later his idiosyncratic style fell out of favor with other faculty, who preferred the circle and squares of the suprematist style. Chagall resigned and moved to Moscow, before heading back to France......."

The New York City Marriage Bureau, will reopen for appointments, licenses, and in-person ceremonies at the end of this month. There is one marriage bureau in each borough, check to see if they will open as well.
Appointments can be made beginning on Monday, July 19th, and licenses can be obtained in-person starting on Friday, July 23rd (ceremonies can be performed 24 hours after a couple gets their license).

“We’re coming back, and love is in the air. What perfect timing. Just in time for Saturday (July 24), which is the 10th anniversary of marriage equality. And we are so happy that these events are all coming together to remind us how beautiful love and marriage are,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said.
