Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, located at 637 North Street, Portsmouth Virgina was founded prior to the birth of African Methodism. In 1772 the Methodist Society in Portsmouth erected a meeting house on South Street.

St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church located at 427 North Loudoun Street, Wi******er, Virgina, was founded in 1867 at the home of Randolph and Katherine Martin. A Parcel of land was purchased from Mr. Josh Barnett and the present edifice was erected in 1887.

St. Paul was designated a historic landmark in 1986. The first pastor was Reverend Robert Armstead and the present pastor is Reverend Kevin Wilson

Mount Olive African Methodist Episcopal Church located at 2 Hicks Avenue, Annapolis, Maryland, was founded in1870. A group of persons from Bestgate and Camp Parole communities met in the home of the father of the late Reverend John P. Harris of Bestgate, Maryland. Allen Chapel, formerly known as Allen Garfield African Methodist Episcopal Church, located at 2948 Alabama Avenue, Southeast, Washington, D.C. was founded in 1850 by Reverend A. W. Richard Allen, the organizer and first bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, was born a slave in Philadelphia in 1760. While a young lad, he was sold to a farmer near Dover, Delaware. He soon was converted to Christianity and began to preach.

Allen impressed his master with his persuasiveness and zeal to such and extent that he was allowed conduct services in the farmers home; and in 1777, he converted his master and was allowed to purchase his freedom. AMEC General Conference

A Methodist Mission was organized in 1849 and named Zion Methodist Church. In 1865, the congregation split and the following year became known as Union American Methodist Church. They purchased the old center for soldiers on Columbus Avenue and subsequently moved the building to Loring Street.

Saint Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church, located at 2500 Chestnut Avenue, Newport News, Virginia, was founded in 1887. In 1900 it relocated from its founding site to another building at 650 23rd Street, Newport News, Virginia. Reverend Isaac l. Butts was the first pastor.
