The Bible was written by people who experienced great loss — which is why it still speaks to ours 😣

"It means committing to work on our own shame and resentments so that we can then turn outward and love other people unconditionally just as God loves us. It means opening ourselves up to the boundless love that God has for us because when we do that, we can then be honest with ourselves about what we could be doing better. We can take an inventory of ourselves from a place of security rather than shame, because we know God loves us regardless. And when we become secure in that knowledge and can take that honest inventory, we become grounded enough that we can love people like the father, even when they mess up." -- Maddie Abbott (5/24/26)

"And in this moment when we see dominant expressions of American Christianity moving further and further away from truth-telling – with little regard for who is harmed in the process – I believe that it is more important than ever that those of us who seek to emobdy a more liberative expression of Christianity – intentionally choose do the opposite – That we hold firm to truth-telling as an essential spiritual practice."

More than being known for their beliefs, early Christians were known for their radically inclusive practices — practices that transformed their inner lives and also shaped how they showed up in the world. As a result, early followers of Jesus were often called “people of the Way” or people practicing “the Way.” This Way that they were referring to was the Way of Jesus — the Way of Unconditional Love. During this sermon series we are exploring together what it might look like for us to embrace the Way of Love in our lives today. How might Christian practices, broadly defined, help us to more fully experience and embody unconditional Agape love?

You are invited to join us, in person or online, this Sunday and in the weeks to come! We'd love to journey alongside you!

Cheap optimism pretends everything is fine. Real hope tells the truth . . . and stays anyway. ☀️

"So, God, I pray that you bless these communion elements. That as we eat the bread of life and drink from cup of love that we will experience your unconditional love more deeply. That we will know without a doubt that we are beloved and that we belong. And that we will be inspired to practice our faith in ways that are radically inclusive. In Jesus’s name we pray. Amen."

A third time Jesus asked, “Peter, do you love me?”
I wonder if you always know how you feel? I wonder if it is possible to be confused about our feelings? Is it possible to have more than one feeling at once? .

Jesus didn’t escape the ache of being human. Why do we think we should? 🤔
