The Silver Lining of Forgetfulness
Dan was staring blankly at the bathroom floor, which was rapidly turning into an indoor swimming pool. The toilet was completely backed up, and his DIY plumbing skills had only succeeded in making the water rise faster. He was in a total pickle.
Desperate, his wife ran into the living room where her dad was comfortably glued to the television screen.
"Dad, can you come over and help Dan fix our toilet?" she pleaded, bracing herself for the emergency.
Her dad didn't even look up from the screen. "Yeah, okay, but you'll have to wait until my show's over. I want to see how it ends."
She stared at the television and sighed. "Dad, it's Matlock! You've seen all these episodes two or three times!"
The old man smiled warmly, completely unbothered by the plumbing crisis or his daughter's exasperation. "Yeah, that's the nice thing about getting old," he chuckled. "I can watch reruns and not remember a thing."
While Dan continued to battle the rising tides with a plunger, his father-in-law happily enjoyed a "brand new" mystery he had already solved three times before.
