Our mission is to recruit and equip community leaders to mentor youth in Washington Heights and Inwo Please indicate 'Pathways' as the designated program.

Washington Heights and Inwood Pathways Mentoring Program was started by a coalition of neighborhood churches and non-profit organizations working together to support the well-being of the Washington Heights-Inwood community. NEW STAFF ALERT! We are so excited to welcome our new High School Coordinator, Jessica Taveras, to the Pathways Team!
A few words from Jessica,

“Hello, I'm very excited to be joining the Pathways Team. I have lived in Washington Heights my entire life. I am an Inwood Academy for Leadership alumni, currently at John Jay College of Criminal Justice where I major in Anthropology and minor in Latinx studies. I heard of Pathways through a mentor of mine and immediately fell in love with the program's mission and knew I wanted to be a part of it.”

This summer we have been partnering with the Uptown HUB in their virtual summer internship called 'Learn-Try-Apply'. Six of our mentees were accepted as interns and are learning about everything from sustainability to public health to journalism. One is even working with their cohort to create an app to promote a social justice initiative. You will be hearing more about their experiences as interns in the coming weeks
As well, four of our mentors have been volunteering once a week to provide career preparation tutoring for 'Learn-Try-Apply' interns who are getting ready to enter the workforce. They have enjoyed hearing the goals and dreams of the interns as they move one step closer to finding their careers

In spite of having multiple jobs, Hazel (aka 'Ms Pina'), our High School Coordinator, always made our mentors and mentees a priority. She showed them over and over that she cares deeply for them. She will be dearly missed this year at Pathways!
Her energy on Friday mornings at program was inspiring and her insight was invaluable. Perseverance, dedication, authenticity, positivity, honesty, enthusiasm, passion and consistency are all words that we would use to describe what we have learned from Hazel in her time with us.
Even though we are sad she will not be working with Pathways this year, we are very thankful that we will still see her at our partner school, Inwood Academy, as she continues in her role there. We love you Hazel! See you around the school!!!
