Faculty & Staff Retreat Day at St. Francis Prep

On March 20th, the St. Francis Prep faculty and staff came together for a meaningful retreat centered on the theme: “Be a dwelling place for God.”

The day began with Mass, followed by brunch and a powerful keynote address from Brother Greg Cellini. Faculty then participated in a variety of breakout sessions, including a walking reflection through Cunningham Park that offered time for prayer and quiet reflection.

The retreat continued with Adoration led by Fr. Thim, and concluded with closing prayers and reflections from Brother Greg, along with remarks from Joe and Pat.

It was a truly spirit-filled day of faith, reflection, and community, a reminder of the mission we share each day.

Brother Leonard recently visited Brother James Branigan at the Holy Cross Brothers retirement home in Valatie, NY, just outside Albany. The two share a long history, having served as principals, Brother James at Holy Cross and Brother Leonard at St. Francis Prep, where they frequently attended the spirited “Battle of the Boulevard” games together.

Their friendship continued when Brother James became Headmaster of Notre Dame High School in West Haven, CT, and invited Brother Leonard to serve on the school’s Board of Trustees, a role he held for six years. Their enduring bond is a testament to a shared commitment to education and the Holy Cross mission.

St. Francis College in Brooklyn celebrated the grand opening of The Lucia and Caesar Cellini Gallery in late February 2026, located in the vestibule of St. Francis Hall. The new space is dedicated to Franciscan tradition, showcasing over 800 years of history, and was made possible by the generosity of the Cellini family, including Brother Gregory Cellini, O.S.F.

A beloved teacher, mentor, and Franciscan for 60 years, Brother John Lawrence served Saint Anthony’s with unwavering faith, joy, and dedication.

From his decades in the Foreign Language Department to his leadership of teams, clubs, and the Mothers’ Guild, Brother John Lawrence touched generations with his wisdom, kindness, and passion for learning.

Let us lift up his family, his Franciscan brothers, and all who were touched by his faithful life of service.

This past weekend, we honored Brother John Lawrence Dawson as he celebrated 60 years of faithful service to God and to the Franciscan mission. His lifelong dedication, humility, and unwavering witness to the Gospel have impacted generations, shaping our community with compassion, joy, and grace.

As part of Franciscan Month, Brother Greg, along with students and faculty from St. Francis College, celebrated "Peace on Earth Day". This day was centered around the Franciscan ideals of nonviolence, interfaith dialogue, and building a world of kinship.

In the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi, parishioners gathered with their beloved pets to receive a blessing and celebrate the beauty of God’s creation.
