Praise the Lord Jesus Christ
No other religion truly deals with the problem of sin. They offer systems, rituals, effort, self-improvement, karma, law-keeping, meditation, or moral striving. But sin itself is never actually paid for. Justice is never satisfied. The burden always remains on the sinner. They are all religions of human achievement.
But the God of the Bible is both perfectly holy and perfectly loving.
God is so holy that sin cannot simply be ignored:
“For the wages of sin is death…” Romans 6:23
“He will by no means clear the guilty…” Exodus 34:7
A good judge cannot overlook evil and still be just. Sin demands payment.
Yet God is also rich in mercy and love:
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
So Christianity is not about man reaching up to God through works. It is about God coming down to save sinners. On the cross, Jesus did not merely “show love” or “set an example.” He actually bore our sin and took our punishment upon Himself.
“The Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.” Isaiah 53:6
“Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree…” 1 Peter 2:24
“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” 2 Corinthians 5:21
That is why Jesus cried:
“It is finished.” John 19:30
The debt was paid in full.
Christianity is the only message where salvation is not achieved by the sinner, but accomplished by the Savior.
Not human effort. Divine grace. Not trying harder. Trusting Christ.
“For by grace are ye saved through faith… not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9
“But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.” Romans 4:5
That is why the gospel is truly good news. Christ paid the penalty we could never pay, offers eternal life freely to all who believe, and God remains both JUST and the JUSTIFIER of the one who has faith in Jesus.
“Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus… to declare his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.” Romans 3:24-26
