Big Oil & Gas spent decades investing in a takeover of our systems of government. In 2024, it all paid off. This administration — from the White House to Congress to the Supreme Court – has spent two years granting the wishes of the fossil fuel industry.

And now: our house is on fire, we’re perpetually at war over oil, and our air and water are poisoned.

And one more thing: Executives and shareholders are enjoying record profits.

Which means they will never choose to change direction.

We’re here to say: WE CAN DO BETTER. We demand better because we care. We care about people and places we love: our congregations, our families, our communities, our natural world.

Above all: our future – that life can continue l’dor v’dor (from generation to generation).

And we know that we have no future unless we get Big Oil and Gas out of our lives. Out of our government. Out of our homes, schools, transportation systems. And out of our landscapes.

No more extracting and burning deadly coal, oil, and gas. No more war profiteering. No more industry control of the institutions that monitor the health and well-being of every living thing.

We MUST get climate voters to the polls in massive numbers, and achieve a huge shift in our priorities as a country.

Our hearts are breaking for everyone experiencing the devastation of wildfires this summer. Today we are thinking of the communities and the natural landscape around Spokane, WA, where 65,000 people have been forced to evacuate their homes.

Dayenu created Spiritual Guides After Extreme Weather to offer Jewish spiritual sustenance, Torah, and ritual ideas for community care in the wake of climate disasters that are made worse and more frequent by climate change.

We hope you will explore these resources: https://dayenu.org/extreme-weather-resources/

This poem is by Rabbi Zoe Klein of Temple Isaiah in Los Angeles, California where fires devastated parts of the community in January 2025. Tragically, it is a poem that resonates for many thousands of people this summer alone.

We know that many survivors and others impacted by climate disasters face a long road to emotional and spiritual recovery – needs which often emerge after the news cameras have left. The process of rebuilding is ongoing, but the emotional and spiritual pain may linger.

These are not emergency response or disaster preparedness resources. They are intended for reflection, healing, community-building, and spiritual support before, during, and after climate-related events.

Get ready for the High Holiday season with a free, drop-in climate creative writing workshop. We will explore Elul-themed wisdom we can bring to this time of climate crisis.

In the month of Elul, which leads up to the High Holidays, we have many opportunities to reflect on the past year and reorient to the world and the life that we want.

Midrash & Imagination: Elul Edition
Tuesday, August 18, 7pm ET / 4pm PT (one hour, online)
Register: https://secure.everyaction.com/XH14LZhn-UesAbz7QQCBfQ2

Come join us in a creative online community space. No prior Jewish learning experience is necessary. All are welcome!

Together, we will explore a midrash about the shofar’s call and use it as a jumping-off point for our own short-form freewriting on the themes of responsibility, climate resilience, and our vision for a thriving future.

Look, it's imperative to build people power if we want our country back. Back from the corporate polluters. From the authoritarians. From the billionaires.

OUR MOMENT is coming in this fall's midterms. We must rally all our strength, spirit, and strategy to ensure voters get to the polls in massive numbers.

Our Chutzpah campaign will be engaging YOU in action. Phonebanking. Postcarding. Canvassing.

If postcarding is your thing, sign up for this session with our great friends at Environmental Voter Project.

We're so happy to welcome Adam Brock to the growing Spiritual Adaptation team at Dayenu! ☀️

This work is vital in supporting the American Jewish community to confront the climate crisis with hearts and eyes wide open, acknowledge feelings of fear and anxiety, cultivate a sense of hope, and move into courageous action.

For more: https://dayenu.org/spiritual-adaptation/

Over the past two decades, Adam has led a food justice nonprofit, published a book on social permaculture, co-founded a grassroots Jewish community, and led strategic planning processes for dozens of climate and food organizations. In addition to his role on Dayenu’s Spiritual Adaptation team, Adam serves as facilitator and educator at Regenerate Change, a national firm focused on regenerative social design.
