The Opposite Occurred

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

On the day that the enemies of the Jews had hoped to overpower them, the opposite occurred….Esther 9:1

TODAY'S WORD:

The book of Esther describes a plot to annihilate the Jewish people. It fails because of two brave people—Mordecai and Esther. The name of God is not mentioned in the book, but that’s the point. When God seemed absent and danger was near, the invisible hand of our Lord was working behind the scenes to save and deliver His people.

Sometimes we face danger or sorrow, and we wonder if God is near. Yes, He is! His eye is watching, His hand is moving, and His grace is available. That’s why we can be thankful even in tense times. The devil may threaten to undo us, but in the providence of God’s grace the opposite will occur.

That’s why we’re called to be thankful. In coming days, we’ll look back and see all the times and places where God has been faithful to us. Be sure each day to think of all God has done for you and ask Him to give you a spirit of gratitude regardless of the circumstances.

The Lord’s wisdom is seen in arranging the smallest events so as to produce great results. Everything, the most minute … as well as the most magnificent, is ordered by the Lord.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Father, I come to You with a heart full of gratitude and praise. Thank You for the breath in my lungs, for Your unwavering presence, and for the grace that meets me every morning. I thank You not only in the seasons of joy and abundance, but also in the moments of uncertainty and pain. It is easy to praise You when life is good, but I choose to offer You a sacrifice of praise even in hard times. Thank You for the struggles that build my endurance, and for the closed doors that protect me. Remind me that You are always in control, working all things together for my good. When I’m overwhelmed, grant me Your peace that surpasses all understanding, and help me to trust in Your unfailing love. Keep my eyes fixed on You, Lord, so that I may be a light of joy and contentment. I give You all the glory, the honor, and the praise. In Jesus’ precious name. Amen.🙏🏾🙌🏾

Confession and Consequences

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart—these, O God, You will not despise…..Psalm 51:17

TODAY'S WORD:

The darkest blot on the life of David was his double sin of adultery and accomplice to murder (2 Samuel 11). David took another man’s wife and then tried to hide his sin by having the woman’s husband killed in battle. And he remained quiet about his actions for almost a year. After the baby that was conceived was born, a prophet confronted David, and he confessed his sin. Psalm 51 contains the record of his sorrowful confession to God.

David’s words in his psalm reflect “a broken spirit ... and a contrite heart.” So we know that God heard his confession and forgave him for his horrendous sins. But what about the consequences of his sins? Confession does not remove consequences. The child that was born died, and several other tragic events happened in the lives of David’s adult children. God promises to forgive our sins, but He does not promise to erase the consequences of our sins.

It takes contrition and humility to confess our sins, but it takes the same attitudes to live with the consequences. Thankfully, God gives restoring grace to heal and repair.

Sin would have few takers if its consequences occurred immediately.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Father, I come before You in honesty and humility, bringing the weight of my sin and my brokenness. I acknowledge that at times I have wandered from Your ways and strayed from Your truth. I confess the things I have done that dishonor You, and the things I have failed to do that were in my power to make right. I recognize that sin creates distance and breaks fellowship with You and with others. I lay down my pride, my excuses, and my attempts to hide my failures. I ask for Your mercy and forgiveness. Grant me the wisdom to make amends where I can, and the strength to walk in obedience moving forward. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and help me to live every day in the light of Your redeeming love. In Jesus’ precious name. Amen.🙏🏾🙌🏾

Good Question, God’s Answer

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

Behold, these are the ungodly, who are always at ease; they increase in riches….Psalm 73:12

TODAY'S WORD:

A timeless question has plagued mankind: Why do the good suffer and the wicked prosper? That question surfaces in the Bible in two extended passages: Job 21 and Psalm 73. Job raised the question because he thought he was a righteous man who had been made to suffer. And the psalmist raised the question because it represented an apparent contradiction. Both writers resolved the question by encountering God and His purposes.

In the latter chapters of his book, Job encountered God and gained understanding about His sovereign ways (Job 42:1-6). The psalmist declared that the contradiction in God’s ways “was too painful for [him]—until [he] went into the sanctuary of God; then [he] understood their end” (Psalm 73:16-17). The “sanctuary” represents Job considering his questions in light of the sovereign purposes of God and the fact that God will balance the scales of justice in the end. For him, it was enough to put his trust in God and “draw near” to Him (verse 28).

Don’t let the carefree lives of those who don’t serve God be a source of frustration. Let Him be your only desire on earth (verse 25).

The humble Christian is far happier in a cottage than the wicked in a palace.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Father, I come to You today acknowledging my need for Your guidance and peace. Thank You for Your unfailing love and for always being a safe refuge for me. Help me realize that I am not in control of my circumstances, You are. I choose to lay down my troubles, burdens, and fears, and leave them to You. Help me to release my grip on the unknown, knowing that You hold my life and future in Your hands. As I navigate the busyness and challenges of each day, draw me closer to You. My desire is to dwell in Your presence and align my heart with Yours. When I feel distant, remind me that you are always near to those who seek You. Open my eyes to see Your goodness, and give me a quiet, listening, spirit so I can hear Your voice above the noise of the world. Fill me with Your presence I pray. In Jesus’ precious name. Amen.🙏🏾🙌🏾

Freed From Guilt

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me. My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat…..Psalm 32:4, NLT

TODAY'S WORD:

Aerial photos are used to reveal the effects of a prolonged drought. One photo will show a lake during times of plentiful rainfall, followed by a photo taken during the drought. The change in the shoreline reveals the effects of evaporation.

The psalmist David used just such an image to describe the effects of unconfessed sin in his life: “My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat.” Psalm 32 is one of the most graphic portrayals of the movement from hidden sin to open confession found in Scripture. We don’t know exactly what sin David was guilty of hiding—perhaps it was his sin with Bathsheba, detailed in Psalm 51—perhaps some other sin. Whatever the sin, David was only freed from his torment of guilt when he confessed to God: “I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,’ and You forgave the iniquity of my sin” (Psalm 32:5).

New Testament Christians are provided the same relief: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).

The way to cover our sin is to uncover it by confession.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Father, I come to You with a humble and honest heart. I confess I have fallen short in my thoughts, words, and actions. Please forgive me for the wrongs I have done and the good I have left undone. I have not loved You with my whole heart, I have not loved my neighbor as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. I thank You for Your Son, Jesus Christ, and the forgiveness He offers as soon as I confess. Deepen my sorrow for the wrongs I have done, and grant me the grace to change. Help me to let go of guilt, and renew a right spirit within me so that I might live in Your joy and peace. Help me to learn from my mistakes and guide me to walk in Your light. In Jesus’ precious name. Amen.🙏🏾🙌🏾

The Holy Family

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

From childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures…..2 Timothy 3:15

TODAY'S WORD:

In his book about holiness, J. I. Packer wrote, “Holiness is actually the true health of the person. Anything else is ugliness and deformity at character level; a malfunctioning of the individual; a crippled state of the soul…. Holiness effectively thwarts Satan in his designs on our lives.”

We’re always concerned about the health of our children. We want them to get the right nutrition and exercise, to have the right medical care, and to be in a sound educational environment. But the most important way of keeping children healthy is to show them what holiness looks like. The apostle Paul reminded Timothy of “the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also” (2 Timothy 1:5).

It’s important to protect our families from destructive influences. What they need to see in us is warm, true, Christlike holiness. Prayer then becomes a great force. Spend some time today praying for your family. And then share a Bible verse with someone in your family circle.

Holiness is the substance of which happiness is the spinoff. Those who chase happiness miss it, while to those who pursue holiness through the grace of Christ, happiness of spirit comes unasked.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Heavenly Father, Author of life and Guardian of our souls, I come to You with a heart full of love for my family and myself. Thank You for the gift of my family. I lift them up to You, asking for Your divine hand to cover each of us. Shield us from harm, wrap us in Your protection, and keep us safe from the dangers and evils of this world. May Your presence be a constant safeguard around our lives, guiding us through each day and night. Inspire within us a deep sense of Your peace that transcends understanding. In times of uncertainty or fear, remind us that You are our rock and our fortress, an ever-present help in trouble. May we be a testament to Your guidance, and each step we take a reflection of Your leading. Equip us with a discernment to recognize Your voice and follow Your way. In Jesus’ precious name. Amen.🙏🏾🙌🏾

Unmoved

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE:

“None of these things move me.”
Acts 20:24, NKJV

TODAY’S WORD:

The apostle Paul knew what it was like to face difficulties everywhere he went, and yet he could say, “None of these things move me.” You have to get to the point where you’re not moved by disappointment, not moved by opposition, not moved by the troubling medical report, not troubled by delays. You have to have a made-up mind that you’re in it for the long haul. No matter what comes your way, you’re going to keep believing, keep trusting, keep praising, keep dreaming, knowing that God has you in the palm of His hand, that He’s working behind the scenes. He says, “No weapon formed against you will ever prosper.” He says, “What was meant for your harm, I will turn to your advantage.”

God being for you is more than the world being against you. Don’t be moved by what you see; it is only temporary. When God brings it all together, it will make sense. Stay in peace, keep the faith, knowing that God is ordering your steps and has the final say. Victory is on the way.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Father, thank You for this peaceful day of rest and worship. Your Presence renews our hearts, Your love restores our strength, and Your mercy gives us hope for the week ahead. As we gather in Your name, help us to lay down our worries and lift up our praise. Fill our homes with peace, our minds with gratitude, and our spirits with Joy. Thank You that my faith and trust are anchored to You and Your mighty power at work in my life. Thank You that I don’t have to be moved by the tests and troubles I face because I know that You are fighting my battles. I know that my hope is in You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.🙏🏾🙌🏾

Praise Him in the Morning

Today's Scripture:

II will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth…..Psalm 34:1

Today's Word:

Don’t just praise the Lord for an hour on Sunday. Keep a song in your heart all the time. Start first thing each day. Scottish preacher Duncan Campbell resolved to bless the Lord at all times, starting with his morning devotions. According to his biographer, Campbell rose each morning as the farmers harnessed their horses to the plows. He was convicted by their work ethic and determined to be as diligent with his spiritual harvest as they were with their crops.

Campbell’s biography explained, “During these hours of communion with God, the fresh dew of heaven bathed his soul, refreshing and equipping him for daily service. He carried the fragrance of the presence of God with him from the secret place into his public ministry.”

When we start the day praising the Lord, it keeps a song in our heart throughout our waking hours. When we offer our praise and worship to the Lord, He can dry our tears and banish our fears. His praise shall continually be in our mouth.

Joy is balm and healing; and if you will but rejoice, God will give power.

Prayer for Today:

Father, I praise You for Your infinite greatness and goodness. You are the Creator of heaven and earth, the source of all life. You are good. You are the Most High God. Thank You for saving me, for guiding me, for filling me with joy as I spend time thanking You for all You have done and all that You are doing in my life today. You have been so good to me. I lift my voice in praise to You. I acknowledge Your sovereignty and power. Help me to always have a heart of gratitude and never forget the blessings You have bestowed upon me daily. May my life be a testimony of Your goodness and may I continually sing praises to Your Holy name. In Jesus’ precious name. Amen.🙏🏾🙌🏾

Your Home

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it…..Psalm 127:1

TODAY'S WORD:

John MacArthur wrote, “It is no mere accident of history that family relationships have always been the very nucleus of all human civilization. According to Scripture, that is precisely the way God designed it to be. And therefore, if the family crumbles as an institution, all of civilization will ultimately crumble along with it.”

When the Lord created humans, He immediately placed them in a marriage/family environment. The devil attacked that marriage, and he has been doing so ever since. But God is stronger than Satan, love is stronger than discord, and the Lord Jesus loves to be included in our homes. In fact, He expects to be first—the ever-near Savior whose presence fills our homes and hearts.

If you’re going to build your family successfully, you need to place God at the head of your home. If not, all your work will be in vain. To have Him at the head of your home, therefore, you need to install Him as the head of your life. Ask God to take charge of your life and of your family today.

God demands to be first in the family. It’s only when we love Him more than family that we can really love our families in the highest, purest sense.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Father, I come before You to surrender my home and family into Your hands. I make a conscious decision today to make You the head of my household. Lord, I invite Your authority to reign over every room, every conversation, and every decision. Let Your Holy Spirit find a comfortable dwelling place here. I ask for Your protection to surround my family, serving as a shield against any negativity, chaos, or harm. I pray that this home would be a place of peace, love, and unity, not quarrel or division. Guide our steps, renew our minds, and fill our hearts with Your wisdom so that we may honor You in all we do. Make my home a sanctuary where Your Name is lifted up and Your Word honored. Thank You for being the solid foundation of our lives. In Jesus’ precious name. Amen.🙏🏾🙌🏾

Your Problems, His Presence

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

And the Lord appeared to him the same night and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham; do not fear, for I am with you. I will bless you.”….Genesis 26:24

TODAY'S WORD:

In Genesis 26, the patriarch Isaac faced multiple pressures. A terrible famine was threatening his livelihood (verses 1-5). He was in hostile territory, and he was worried he’d be killed by someone wanting his beautiful wife, Rebekah (verses 6-7). He also angered Abimelech, king of the Philistines, and was driven from his territory (verses 8-16). Local tribesmen constantly harassed and argued with him and his servants (verses 17-22).

Have you ever experienced a time when multiplied pressures and problems bore down on you? We all have! But that’s exactly when God appeared to Isaac and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bless you” (verse 24, NIV).

When you’re fearful or discouraged, learn to draw near to God. If you’ve admitted your fears to Him and called out to Him, He will deliver you. God doesn’t always remove you from your circumstances, but He will be with you through all of them, protecting you.

An awakened soul feels that his chief happiness is in coming before God…. In His presence is fulness of joy.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Father, I come before You feeling fearful and overwhelmed, needing Your peace that passes understanding. Please calm my heart and anxious mind. I choose to trust in Your promise that You are with me, my refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Strengthen me to face the day with courage, knowing You are stronger than my fears. I lift my worries and insecurities, laying them at Your feet, for I cannot carry them alone. Replace my fear with Your perfect love. When I am weak, remind me that You are strong, and help me to lean entirely on You, confident that You will never leave me or forsake me. In Jesus’ precious name. Amen.🙏🏾🙌🏾

Afraid?

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

For they all were trying to make us afraid…..Nehemiah 6:9

TODAY'S WORD:

In his autobiography, missionary John G. Paton wrote of being surrounded by hostile warriors, their weapons raised. “I expected next instant to die. But God moved me to talk to them firmly and kindly; I warned them of their sin and its punishment; I showed them … that my only desire to live was to make them all as happy, by teaching them to love and serve my Lord Jesus. I then lifted up my hands and eyes to the Heavens, and prayed aloud for Jesus to bless [them], and either to protect me or to take me home to Glory…. One after another they slipped away from me, and Jesus restrained them once again.”

The world wants to make us afraid. When fearful, we need to acknowledge the reliability of our God. He is in charge! When you feel fear, lift up your hands and eyes to heaven and pray aloud for Jesus to bless those around you and protect you—or to take you on to Glory!

Did ever mother run more quickly to protect her crying child in danger’s hour than the Lord Jesus hastens to answer believing prayer, and send help to His servants in His own good time and way, so far as it shall be for His glory and their good?

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Father, I come to You in my fear and uncertainty, seeking Your divine protection. Lord, I ask that You surround me with Your angels and cover me with Your blood, shielding me, my family, and those around me from all harm. Where I feel fear, replace it with Your perfect peace. I trust in You as my refuge and fortress. Please extend Your blessing to those near me, guard their minds, bodies, and spirits. Calm the anxiety in my heart and let no weapon formed formed against us prosper. Thank You for Your constant, loving presence. In Jesus’ precious name. Amen.🙏🏾🙌🏾
