It feels harder than ever to follow Jesus right now.
The world is loud. Chaotic. Angry. Everything feels upside down, and truth is constantly being questioned, or flat-out replaced.
Our children are being shaped by social media, and honestly, so are a lot of adults. Outrage is rewarded. Confusion is normalized. Emotion is elevated above wisdom.
People are fighting, protesting, destroying, shouting… and I can’t help but wonder…what are people even fighting for anymore? Do they really know? Or are they so overwhelmed by fear, lies, and nonstop noise that they’ve finally snapped and feel like they have to act?
And somewhere along the way, we’ve started excusing things that should never be normal!
When has it ever been okay to attack law enforcement?
When did violence and destruction become acceptable responses to disagreement?
So much of what I see isn’t conviction-it’s confusion.
Not courage-but chaos.
Not truth-but reaction.
Scripture reminds us, “They are always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth.” (2 Timothy 3:7)
Following Jesus has never meant blending in with the culture. “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind.” (Romans 12:2)
God is also clear about order and authority. “Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established.” (Romans 13:1)
That doesn’t mean blind agreement, but it does mean violence, lawlessness, and hatred are never the answer.
Jesus warned us this would happen. “You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed.” (Matthew 24:6)
Not because things wouldn’t be serious, but because fear clouds wisdom.
This world doesn’t need louder voices.
It needs steadier ones.
“God is not a God of confusion but of peace.” (1 Corinthians 14:33)
Especially for the sake of our kids, we have to be rooted. “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith.” (1 Corinthians 16:13) We have to know what we believe and why, and live it out with both truth and love.
Following Jesus is hard right now.
But it’s also never been more necessary.
“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” (Romans 12:21)
Truth still matters.
Love still matters.
And “the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” (John 1:5)
