THE JEFFERSON PARISH MEAL ASSISTANCE
PROGRAM HAS DELIVERED OVER 20,000 MEALS IN ITS FIRST 15 DAYS, ENROLLMENT IS STILL OPEN

The Jefferson Parish Meal Assistance program has provided over 20,000 meals in its first 15 days and continues to accept new applications.

Residents are encouraged to call the Jefferson Parish COVID-19 Meal Assistance Program Hotline at (504) 736-6162 or apply online at www.jeffparish.net. The well-balanced meals are delivered to homes once a week frozen with instructions for heating. “The Jefferson Parish Meal Assistance Program started off as a huge success. The Parish has now delivered over 20,000 meals to residents impacted by this ongoing pandemic,” said Jefferson Parish Councilman Deano Bonano (District 2). “Enrollment is still open, and I encourage seniors to apply today if they need assistance during this economic and health crisis.”

The COVID-19 Meal Assistance Program is provided to qualifying seniors through a cost-sharing collaboration with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Governor's Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP).

Meals inspired by recipes from participating local restaurants will be provided to the following range of residents impacted by COVID-19:

· Senior Citizens aged 65 or older who reside in Jefferson Parish,
· Senior Citizens aged 60-64 who are diagnosed with COVID-19 or ordered to stay in quarantine by a doctor, or
· Senior Citizens aged 60-64 who have mobility limitations that force them to be homebound or have underlying/high risk health conditions that make it best to practice self-quarantine.
All participants must reside in Jefferson Parish and not be receiving any other Federal or State Food Nutritional Benefits or Assistance (EBT/Food Stamps, SNAP, Meals on Wheels, etc.).
