Fr. Thien is leaving; Fr. Andrew is coming
One of the most challenging moments for a priest is being moved from a place he loves. In the Archdiocese of New Orleans, a Parochial Vicar (Associate to the Pastor) ordinarily is moved every three years. A few weeks ago, Archbishop Aymond informed Fr. Thien that he will move from our parish as he completes three years of serving here this summer. Fr. Thien will become the Parochial Vicar at Mary, Queen of Vietnam Parish in New Orleans East. The Pastor there is a Mentor to Fr. Thien; he has significant health issues and needs an Associate who knows the language and traditions of the Vietnamese people. Fr. Thien’s last day with us will be June 30th.
As you well know, Fr. Thien has been a faithful, joyful minister of God in our parish and school. He has given 110%. His smile, his presence at every event, and his amiable service have been a great blessing. He will be missed. Both our parish and our school will recognize and thank him for his dedicated service at celebrations to be announced.
Archbishop Aymond also has announced that a newly ordained priest will be assigned to St. Francis on July 1 – Deacon Andrew Sanchez, soon to become Fr. Andrew when ordained on June 5. He is 35 years old, a native of Chalmette, a graduate of Brother Martin High School and LSU Dental School. He has served as a Dentist in the U.S. Army. Fr. Andrew is excited to join our community. We will welcome him here in July.
In the interim, please join me in thanking Fr. Thien for his wonderful ministry with us these past three years. We want to make the most of his remaining time in our community. May God bless Fr. Thien, our parish and school in these days of transition.
Sincerely in Our Lord,
Father Joe
