It was a magical musical Sunday at KHN as we gathered in song circles led by the talented Aly Halpert, a Jewish musician, educator, and activist. Aly's songs build community, expand our sense of possibility, and create hope for our world.

From circles for our youngest tots and kids, to older kids, to adults, we blended our voices in song and hope.

Getting ready for Passover! Yesterday, KHN hosted a fun community gathering for tots and little kids at the Lambertville Library.

We tasted matzah and special matzah balls made by our own Morah Anita. Then it was story time with Rabbi Janine (did you ever hear of an alligator seder?!), followed by craft and playtime with new friends.

In Hebrew, the word "Kehilat" means community or congregation. Our kehilat comes together in many ways. Today, a group of our community participated in our pre-Passover grounds cleanup. Todah rabah (thank you so much!) to our volunteers who came with their tools and hearts to beautify our shul.

We kept warm this weekend at Shul School!

We gathered in the sanctuary for morning blessings and Rabbi Janine taught us about our Jewish ancesters and answered great questions from our KHN kids!

Morah Staci showed us videos of the story of Joseph followed by more great questions and answers!

Then we got to create our own (edible!) coat of many colors (yum!).

Our older kids got some special time with the Rabbi while the younger ones got to learn hebrew letters with games and activities with Morah Staci.

We had a very special guest teacher this session with our own Moreh Andy who taught us about the Torah. Shul School kids learned how to “dress” the torah, why the Torah is so special, and how to recognize hebrew words (without vowels!).

At Shul School, we learned the Jewish value of "tikun olam" and how we each can make the world a better place.

We were reminded, as we are today, of the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and about service and tzedakah.

Shul School kids learned about the work and impact of neighboring community organizations. They then made beautiful placements for the Community Meal program in Lambertville and prepared hundreds of snack bags for the Norwescap Backpack Program.

Tonight is both Shabbat and Hanukkah! Shabbat is a weekly reminder that joy is an integral part of a spiritual life. As we light both the Hanukkah and Shabbat candles, may the candles spark inspiration for bringing more joy into your home.

Tonight, before Shabbat services, we gathered to light our menorahs together, share a Hanukkah meal, and be grateful for our KHN community.

Tonight's Hanukkah reflections were shared among members of the KHN community who gathered virtually for Rabbi Janine's weekly "Behaving Like a Jew" session.

Rabbi Janine discussed the holiday story and the significance of the rededication of the Temple and the reestablishment of our form of worship.

We sang the blessings and lit our menorahs together from our homes, bringing our community lights into a dark world, and shared special memories and the meaning of our individual hanukkiahs.

Rabbi's weekly "Behaving Like a Jew" session is held on Tuesdays from 6:30-7:00 pm. For information about this weekly session or KHN, contact Rabbi Janine Jankovitz at [email protected].
