What does headship actually mean, and does it limit women’s leadership?

Last week, we explored the equal value of men and women and what it means for men to lead through Christlike sacrifice rather than control. Now, we take the conversation further: What’s the difference between headship and leadership? Are women free to lead and teach in the church? And how much of what we call “gender roles” comes from Scripture versus culture? Part 2 of Is the Church Sexist? explores these questions and what it means to honor both the uniqueness and the God-given gifts of men and women.

What a beautiful Sunday at Petra Church!

We worshiped together, celebrated God’s goodness, and had the joy of dedicating ten children to the Lord. What a special reminder of the privilege and responsibility we have to raise the next generation to know and love Jesus.

We’re grateful for these families and excited to see all that God has in store for these little ones! 💙

Petra Church is looking for two part-time team members who want to use their gifts to serve children, families, and volunteers:

Childcare Coordinator – Coordinate Wednesday childcare, lead and support caregivers, and help create a safe, welcoming environment where kids can thrive.

SNAP Coordinator – Oversee our special needs ministry, support SNAP families, and coordinate the volunteers and buddies who help make church a welcoming place for every child.

What does the Bible actually say about the value and roles of men and women? Women and men are equally valuable, equally accountable to Jesus, and called to live in mutual submission. But Scripture also speaks about headship, and Jesus radically redefines what godly authority looks like. Explore what it means for men to lead not by domination, but through selfless love, protection, and service.
