I was thinking about....
Now Calling......... You?
Isaiah 6:8 “Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.”
Several times a year, I have this deep desire to be with the ocean. It is hard to explain. It is just where I want to be. It is like a balm to my heart. The season doesn't matter. Cold weather, hot or in between, I just want to be there. Some call that the call of the sea. There are different calls like that. The call of the mountains, the call of adventure. The destination is different, but the nature of the call is the same. Its lure is based in His nature, and God's will.
Many find The Call of God mysterious. I don't, but I will tell you, we Christians complicate it a lot. Whether it is the Call to Salvation or the call to service, it is always based in HIS nature, never ours. His call is NOT based on some skill set we have. We all have natural abilities God may or may not choose to use. More importantly, it is not going to be at the time or place of our choosing. We call Him Father and Lord, why then would we expect Him to do as we see fit or when we think it will occur?
It will all happen according to His will, His time table and His all knowing desires for you, His servant.
In today's reading we see the call of Isaiah. What a vision of the throne room of Heaven. Even reading it is enough to make you fall down and worship. Two things are clearly seen. First is purification. A three times Holy God can never have dealings with sinful man. See how God must PURGE the Prophet. Praise God for the Atonement of Jesus. Isaiah’s Heart needed to be purified to receive the call. Today, personal holiness is seldom discussed in our churches.
Believe this, it is a concept that is as applicable today as it was in Isaiah's day. The holy lifestyle or purity of the believer is based on our vision of God and He is Holy. Ours must be as well. That's why confession, a 1 John 1:9 confession, as a part of prayer, is so important. Mat. 5:8 tells us that its the PURE pf heart that will see God. They will see Him now--In every situation He places in front of us. We will also be blessed with seeing Him in the world to come.
Purity of our heart is key. The second stand out from Isaiah's call is confession, which must forever be linked with personal holiness. When Isaiah confesses, which simply means to agree with how God sees it, he is saying God, I too am part of Israel and guilty as them, forgive me, cleanse me. Cleanse US.
Lastly, he is saying use me. Holy living, purity of heart, mind and motive, along with availability are keys.
Do you hear His call? How will YOU respond?
Let us pray:
Heavenly Father, thank You for always being there. Help us to open our hearts to Your calling for us, whatever that may be, and to remember that we must keep our hearts and lives as holy as You are. Help us to confess our sins so that we may hear You. We know we are not worthy, yet You have cleansed us and provided for us so that we may be. We love You and wait for Your calling of us. We praise Your holy name. Amen.
