Corruption in leadership has been an issue since sin entered the world. When one person, or a group of people, is elevated over another it can easily lead to problems. Pride increases, power corrupts, and sin creeps in as the powerful crave more power at the expense of the weak.

When I was a young boy I used to watch the way my father reacted to everything. If we were watching a funny show I wanted to see if he was laughing or smiling before I laughed or smiled. If something was sad I wanted to see if it made my father sad before I showed any emotion. Whenever something was confusing or unsettling I looked to my father for reassurance.

I am so fascinated by the 13 verses of prayer in Psalm 79. Jerusalem had been destroyed by the Babylonian Empire. A 10 year battle from 597 BC - 587 BC ended in the destruction of the Southern Kingdom of Judah and the final chapter on the land of Israel in the Old Testament. Many of the Jews were carried into exile and forced to live in a foreign land.

I grew up in a south suburb of Chicago. My parents were worship leaders at a local church so my brothers and I were at the church when the doors were unlocked. My dad was often the guy unlocking them! Every Wednesday night and Sunday morning we were there. I can't think of any other kids I grew up with who attended church more than we did, and that's okay.
