Lets talk about Far East! My understanding is that it was the very first Asian restaurant in Murfreesboro and has been open since the 60’s, although through a succession of owners. Today, we ordered the General Chicken with noodles and the pick 4. Yes, not 3, but 4. It’s a thing that’s not on the menu but it’s an option. Just ask for it. I had the General Chicken, Pepper Steak, Roast Pork and Fried Rice. We each had an egg roll and split an order of Cream Cheese Wontons (or some call them Crab Rangoons). In our opinions, their General Chicken is the best anywhere we’ve ever had. It’s not the typical low quality generic chicken that most places serve, it’s all white meat, large round pieces that are very crispy and don’t get soggy in the sauce. The noodles appear to be regular ramen but they are sweet and delicious and I’ve never had them prepared like that anywhere. The pepper steak is perfection and they use the freshest vegetables in their dishes. The roast pork is fall apart tender and juicy and does have a little fat (not a fan of the fat but it does flavor it well). The wontons are good BUT the absolute best item that Far East offers, and I mean, not having this if I were to move away, would be a major motivating factor in staying in Murfreesboro, is their egg rolls. THEY. ARE. MASSIVE. I have never had an egg roll anywhere that is in any way nearly as good at theirs. It’s mostly just cabbage inside but they must marinate it in something that gives it the best flavor and coupled with their homemade sweet sauce, it’s one of the best things I’ve ever eaten, anywhere. If you’re not familiar with this restaurant, it’s nothing to look at from the outside - it’s an old building but they did a nice renovation a few years ago. It’s located right by the intersection of East Main St and Baird Ln, just down from the main entrance to MTSU. It's a must try if you've never been.
