How exciting for the Catholic Church and especially to all Americans

Excitement is building for the beatification of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, scheduled for September 24, 2026, in St. Louis. The ceremony will take place at The Dome at America’s Center and is expected to draw tens of thousands of pilgrims. More than 40,000 tickets have already been sold, with organizers anticipating a full house.

Sheen, the Illinois native known for his Emmy-winning television program Life Is Worth Living, will become the first Emmy Award winner to be declared Blessed. His beatification, originally planned for 2019, was postponed and later rescheduled for this fall.

Events will begin in Peoria, where Sheen was ordained a priest in 1919. A novena of Holy Hours starts September 15 at the Cathedral of St. Mary, followed by a Mass marking the anniversary of his ordination. In St. Louis, vespers and a young-adult Holy Hour will precede the beatification Mass, which Cardinal Luis Tagle will celebrate on behalf of Pope Leo XIV. A relic of Sheen will be available for veneration afterward.

Thanksgiving Masses will return the celebrations to Peoria, along with the first “Sheen Awards Gala” recognizing those who continue his media and missionary legacy. EWTN will broadcast the beatification Mass live.

Bishop Louis Tylka of Peoria expressed hope that the events will renew faith and inspire joyful witnesses of the Gospel.
