Barbour County churches, church members, and church leaders:

CarePortal is coming to Barbour County!

More than 100 Barbour County children are currently in foster care, and many families are struggling long before a child is ever removed from their home.

Churches often want to help, but the biggest question is usually: “What can we actually do?”

CarePortal provides a clear answer.

CarePortal is a simple, proven technology that connects churches directly with real needs identified by trusted local caseworkers and agencies. Needs like beds, meals, clothing, car seats, transportation, and other practical support for families in crisis.

Sometimes meeting a simple need helps stabilize a family and prevents children from entering foster care. Other times, it helps support foster, adoptive, and kinship families already caring for vulnerable children.

Churches in neighboring counties are already making a measurable impact through CarePortal, and now Barbour County churches have the opportunity to step in and serve local families in a practical, organized, Gospel-centered way.

What happens after foster care matters just as much as what happens during it.

If you are 18 or older and a foster care alumni, a young adult formerly in foster care, or someone who aged out of care, this gathering is for you.

The West Virginia ALL IN Gathering is a place to connect with people who understand your journey, build real community, and learn about local resources and support available to help you move forward with confidence.

Join this gathering on Saturday, May 30, from 11 AM to 2 PM in Fairmont for a relaxed, family-friendly afternoon with food, games, raffles, a magician, and meaningful connections. Bring your kids, bring a friend, and come spend time with people who get it.

This is not a formal program. It is a chance to be encouraged, supported, and reminded that you are not alone.

Please help us spread the word by sharing this with foster care alumni and young adults transitioning out of care.

CarePortal is coming to Barbour County soon.

That is why we are gathering pastors and church leaders in Philippi on Friday, May 15, at 9:00 AM at the Philippi Inn.

Before launching CarePortal across the county, we want local churches to understand what CarePortal is, why it matters, and how they can be part of it.

CarePortal connects caseworkers who see urgent needs with churches ready to respond. Sometimes helping prevent foster care starts with something as simple as a bed, groceries, clothing, transportation, or support for a struggling family.

It is a practical way for churches to step in early, help stabilize families, and make a real difference in the lives of local children and families.

If you are a pastor, ministry leader, or church leader in Barbour County, we would love to have you join us.

There are moments when you can feel that God is building something bigger than any one person or organization. Wednesday felt like one of those moments.

It has been a few days since Wednesday’s 5th Annual All In Foster Care Summit, and our Village team is still processing what God did that day and what He seems to be doing across West Virginia. There were countless stories from the day, and so many ways we saw His orchestration in the details, connections, new relationships, and the hope that emerged.

More than 200 people gathered at Chestnut Ridge Church in Morgantown, and it felt like more than just another event. We walked away with a stronger sense that God is doing something special here in West Virginia to care for our most vulnerable children and families.

Our Summit theme this year was "Building the Way Together," inspired by the story of Nehemiah. Just like the walls of Jerusalem were rebuilt through organized action, families working together, and people willing to stay the course, we were reminded that lasting change for children and families happens the same way. Not through isolated effort, but through people building side by side.

Throughout the day, we talked about what it means to move beyond awareness and into action.

We talked about building foster-friendly communities where foster, adoptive, and kinship families are well supported to stay in the fight longer.

We talked about how churches can step into clear, practical roles rather than staying at the level of good intentions.

We talked about stronger collaboration between churches, child welfare agencies, nonprofits, and businesses so that families are surrounded by real, lasting support.

We talked about foster alumni and young adults and how churches and communities can come alongside them, and how their voices matter so much as we chart our path forward.

And we talked about the truth that no one builds this alone.

Through it all, one thing kept becoming clearer: God is driving something special in the Mountain State.

Not because of one event.
Not because of one organization.
But because He is bringing people together and reminding us that everyone can do something, and that we are better together.

We are so grateful to Chestnut Ridge Church for hosting this year’s Summit and serving so well.

And to every speaker, volunteer, church, agency, foster family, foster alumni, caregiver, and partner who showed up, thank you.

This was not a finish line. It was just the next of many steps toward making West Virginia the best place to be a child in the nation.

We are grateful to be building it together, and West Virginia, through every single one of you, is only getting started.

It’s easier to build stronger families in West Virginia when people and organizations work together instead of going it alone.

Over the past several days, Melissa and the team have been out sharing news about the 5th Annual All In Foster Care Summit, which is happening this week!

The Summit is on Wednesday, May 6, in Morgantown. This year’s theme is Building the Way Together, highlighting how real change for children and families happens when churches, child welfare professionals, foster and adoptive families, foster alumni, and community leaders unite with a shared purpose and take practical steps.

If you want to see children and families supported before, during, and after foster care, this Summit is for you.

West Virginia has the highest rate of children in foster care in the country, and creating better outcomes for children and families will take all of us working together.

That is why The Village hosts the All In Foster Care Summit, and we are excited to welcome Andy Cook, CEO of Promise686, back to West Virginia.

Andy poses the idea, “What if West Virginia became the best place in America for a child to grow up?”

This Summit brings together pastors, child welfare professionals, families, and community leaders to move beyond awareness and begin taking action for West Virginia’s children and families.

Huge shout-out to Amanda Barren WOWK and team for this thoughtful and wide-ranging "On The Record" conversation about foster care in West Virginia, the upcoming 5th Annual All In Foster Care Summit, and the many ways churches and local communities can play a vital role in supporting foster, adoptive, kinship, and vulnerable children and families.

This discussion highlights an important truth: foster care was never meant to be carried alone. When churches, families, child welfare professionals, and communities work together, real change happens. We were honored to share how The Village is playing a small part in helping build these connections across West Virginia.

What if every church made it their business to simply show up and love struggling families?

In this Summit Flashback from the 2024 All In Foster Care Summit, Darrell Missey, Director of the Missouri Children’s Division at the time, asks a question that changes the conversation:

What would happen if churches across the country did for families in crisis what one church did for his?

Not more programs.
Not more complexity.

Just people who show up and love.

That idea has the power to reshape outcomes for children, strengthen families, and impact entire communities.

This is the kind of conversation that continues at the All In Foster Care Summit.

The 2026 Summit will bring together leaders from across West Virginia to focus on practical action, stronger collaboration, and real next steps for children and families.
