What a great crew of CU volunteers this morning at Feeding the Gulf Coast Food Bank. On the left, India Vereen, John Reiter, Melanie Smith-Greene, Layne Barrett, and Angela Strickland inspected donated food items while (on the right) Priscilla Gaby, Fred Gochey, Fran Smith, and Gary Hunter took the checked items and sorted them onto pallets of similar types.
Thanks for showing the love of Christ and Christ United Church by helping play a part as FTGC works to feed the hungry. Today, you helped "Change the World" for many who need this food.

Thanks to CU volunteers who removed downed trees, limbs, and brush at McKemie Place (women's homeless shelter) today. Howard Allen, Tom Davis, Mike Gaby, DeWayne Greene, Hank Hays, Gary Hunter, Frank Reusser, Rod Sellers, and Jim Vereen worked from 8:30 to lunchtime removing the old wood, vines, small trees, and downed limbs that were making the area behind McKemie Place unsightly. In the process they also recovered hundreds of square feet of the parking lot that was under dirt, leaves, and vines.

You can help us finish work at McKemie Place this Saturday. Our thanks go out to Hank Hays, Bill Hussong, and Jim Vereen for volunteering last Friday. They helped repair nearly 20 feet of fallen fence line. Then they started cleanup of fallen limbs and brush. This Saturday morning, Feb. 14, we'll work to complete that cleanup. Our Saturday service project at McKemie Place is shifting. On Friday (tomorrow) morning, we will be working to repair their fence. Then, next Saturday (2/14) we'll work to clear the brush and downed tree limbs for them. Anyone available to help with the fence can join us at 8:30 in the morning. If you missed the information meeting last week, join us this Sunday morning (2/1) between the worship services (10:00-10:30) in the Hospitality Room to learn about our June 9-16, 2026 trip to serve at the Methodist Church in Alajuela, Costa Rica. This trip is led by "Hands of Joy" Missions and is one that a number of CU Members continue to participate in and support. Open to adults and parent-accompanied middle or high school students. Come see how you can share Christ's love, experience another culture, and grow relationships with others.

You can help! We have 2 indoor service opportunities in the next 2 weeks. Thursday, 1/22, we will help Victory Health Partners (3750 Professional Parkway) prepare their annual donor receipt mailing beginning at 8:30 AM. Then, a week from Saturday, 1/31, we will be at Open Doors Thrift Store (4125 Government Blvd, also at 8:30AM) to help sort and display donations for this partner that raises hundreds of thousands of dollars for local Methodist ministries like Dumas Wesley Community Center, Sybil Smith Village, USA Wesley Foundation, and Mobile Inner City Mission. CU members spent Friday, Dec. 19, installing interior doors and base molding at the Habitat for Humanity build on Bank Avenue. Thank you Howard Allen, Mike Gaby, Dewayne Greene, Ardenne Hayes, Hank Hays, and Curtis Keller for volunteering to serve God as we try to help Habitat get this home done by the end of the year. Another work day will be scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 30.

On Monday and Tuesday, CU members volunteered to help the Christmas Collaborative assemble and wrap gifts for local families. Our thanks go out to Sandee Barto, Patty Brown, Mike & Priscilla Gaby, Linda Giertz, Hank Hays, Gary Hunter, Curtis Keller, Susan Mabrey, Jan McIntosh, John Reiter, Angela Strickland, and Peggy Windham for sharing your time to show Christ's love.

Can you help show Christ's love? We still have room for volunteers this week at Feeding the Gulf Coast (meal box packing) from 12:00-2:30 PM Thursday and Home of Grace for Women (8:30 AM-lunchtime) Saturday. Thursday will be indoors and requires no lifting (other than individual food items) while Saturday will be outdoor trimming, pruning, and cleanup. We’re expecting hay, and will finish decorating the Pumpkin Patch with other embellishments.

Thursday | October 2 | 8:00 a.m.
The pumpkins are arriving. Come help us unload the pumpkins.

Thursday | October 16 | 8:00 a.m.
Our second set of pumpkins are arriving. Come help us unload the pumpkins.
