Service Opportunities for June 8 & 27
Join with other CU members as we volunteer to assist our ministry partners at Dwell Mobile June 8 (Monday) and Home of Grace for Women (Saturday, June 27). A wide variety of tasks are available. We'll help Dwell Mobile (an agency that helps foreign refugees become resettled in Mobile) by changing out some light fixtures, hauling off tree debris, and sorting/displaying items in their thrift store. Then, at the end of the month, we'll do some light maintenance/repair work and landscape trimming at the Home of Grace for Women (an addiction treatment center for women). Both events will begin on-site at 8:30 AM and finish by lunchtime.
Our gift of time and service helps these organizations provide ministry and shows Christ's love to them and the people they serve as we Change the World, TOGETHER.

CU volunteers spent Saturday morning sorting and displaying items at Open Doors Thrift Store. With 18 volunteers (Kay Davis, Mike Gaby, the Hasty family, Gary Hunter, Austin Ingram, the Maitre family, Steve & Susan Mcrae, Jean O'Brien, John Reiter, & Peggy Windham) they were a lot of help to this ministry partner that raised nearly $250,000 for Methodist ministries last year. Thanks to those who gave their time and energy as we Love God, Love People, and Change the World, TOGETHER!!

CU volunteers (Howard Allen, Layne Barrett, Mike Gaby, DeWayne Green, Hank Hays, Gary Hunter, Austin Ingram, and John Reiter) spent this morning in Chunchula laying sod at the nearly completed Habitat for Humanity home on Miller Court. What a great way to show support for this worthy ministry and live out Christ's love for the "soon to be" homeowner. Thanks for putting your faith into practice as we Love God, Love People, and Change the World...together!!!

Thanks, CU, for giving so well to the collection of personal items for shelters in our area. After the Missions Committee spent time separating your donations, McKemie Place, Waterfront Rescue Mission, Sybil Smith Village, and Penelope House each received a healthy amount of items to help them serve those that they shelter from homelessness or domestic abuse. You have helped "Change the World" for those that they serve.

How do you help the homeless? Christ United volunteers worked to clean and prepare a space yesterday at our ministry partner, Sybil Smith Family Village (transitional housing for women with children). Our thanks go out to Mike & Priscilla Gaby, Hank Hays, Gary Hunter, Susan McRae, and John Reiter for the work they did yesterday to clean and re-stock a 3 bedroom apartment that will house a new family later this week. It's one way to help Change the World. Another is to help provide shelters with a supply of personal items (like soaps, deodorant, hygiene products, etc.). We have collection points set up in the sanctuary atrium and rec ministry entry area. See a list of needed supplies by clicking the link below:

What a great crew of CU volunteers this morning at Feeding the Gulf Coast Food Bank. On the left, India Vereen, John Reiter, Melanie Smith-Greene, Layne Barrett, and Angela Strickland inspected donated food items while (on the right) Priscilla Gaby, Fred Gochey, Fran Smith, and Gary Hunter took the checked items and sorted them onto pallets of similar types.
Thanks for showing the love of Christ and Christ United Church by helping play a part as FTGC works to feed the hungry. Today, you helped "Change the World" for many who need this food.

Thanks to CU volunteers who removed downed trees, limbs, and brush at McKemie Place (women's homeless shelter) today. Howard Allen, Tom Davis, Mike Gaby, DeWayne Greene, Hank Hays, Gary Hunter, Frank Reusser, Rod Sellers, and Jim Vereen worked from 8:30 to lunchtime removing the old wood, vines, small trees, and downed limbs that were making the area behind McKemie Place unsightly. In the process they also recovered hundreds of square feet of the parking lot that was under dirt, leaves, and vines.

You can help us finish work at McKemie Place this Saturday. Our thanks go out to Hank Hays, Bill Hussong, and Jim Vereen for volunteering last Friday. They helped repair nearly 20 feet of fallen fence line. Then they started cleanup of fallen limbs and brush. This Saturday morning, Feb. 14, we'll work to complete that cleanup. You can sign up to help us (or to join us at Feeding the Gulf Coast food bank on the 18th) by clicking the following link:
