Have a great St. Michael and All Angels Day! I've always been intrigued by angels and am thinking/experiencing/writing more about them as I work on my book about Mary.

Today, we commemorate Michael and All Angels. "Angels often carry a message of God’s immensity and majesty," the Rev. Dr. Christa von Zychlin says in her 2021 Gather study, "Journeys with angels." She asks, "Is there a specific place, a work of art or music, or an aspect of nature that has most recently evoked something of God’s immensity for you?"

Sometimes I've felt guilty about my restlessness, even in older age, as if it's an indication of my lack of faith. How I love this take on spiritual restlessness from Gregory of Nysa and David Brooks!

So perfect as the leaves begin to fall, and we remember Wendell Berry.

"I have made myself a dream to dream of its rising, that has gentled my nights. Let me desire and wish well the life these trees may live when I no longer rise in the mornings..." — Wendell Berry (August 5, 1934-August 31, 2026) May God grant him a place among the living trees of eternity.

Fleming Rutledge is one of my spiritual mothers and fabulous example of a faithful churchwoman, preacher and teacher. Here she preaches Christ's resurrection at the funeral of her beloved husband. Worth taking 20 minutes of your day to listen to the whole thing.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

An after rain run makes me think of these words from the old prophet Jeremiah:
"Do any of the worthless idols of the nations bring rain? Do the skies themselves send down showers? No, it is you, LORD our God. Therefore our hope is in you, for you are the one who does all this."

173 miles of pilgrimage, Portuguese rental car challenges, threats of a transportation strike, a super crowded Lisbon airport,a three-legged flight home with one heart stopping but ultimately not insurmountable delay… and a joyful, tearful reunion at the Green Bay airport!!! Maybe ESPECIALLY in retirement it’s true, absence really does make the heart grow fonder!!! 🥂❤️

After his Camino, Wayne is spending a couple of days in Fátima, where in 1917 three shepherd children saw Mother Mary appear to them. This gold mosaic (and striking crucifix) shows Mary presenting the children to the Lamb of of God (Jesus). Instead of being front & center herself, Mary is a mothering guide, directing us toward her Child, the Compassionate, Suffering Savior. [short video in comments]
