On Sunday, June 21, St. John the Baptist Parish will celebrate their patronal feast day. Every Catholic Church has a day set aside to celebrate their individual parish feast and this usually falls around day of the feast of the saint named to the church. St. John’s official feast day assigned by the Catholic Church is June 24th, but a church using that feast as their patronal feast day is permitted to move it to the nearest Sunday so more people can celebrate the feast. Congratulations to St. John Parish and happy feast day!

St. John the Baptist was born to Zechariah and Elizabeth, who was considered barren. His birth was announced by the Archangel Gabriel. John spent his early adulthood in the Judaean wilderness. He lived a deeply penitential life, eating locusts and wild honey and wearing clothes made of camel's hair. When he was 30 years old, God called him to the Jordan River to preach a baptism of repentance. He urged the crowds to turn away from sin and "make straight the way of the Lord". When Jesus came to the Jordan, John baptized Him. The Holy Spirit descended like a dove, and God the Father declared, ‘This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased’. John was martyred for his bold commitment to the truth.

Before there was an internet, Fulton Sheen had 30 million people tuning in for his TV and radio show every. single. week. His “influencer” impact exceeded that of every Catholic media today put together. By a long shot. That influence sent ripples through the world, and to us today. It’s not an exaggeration to say that if you have a living faith today, it might be because, in the 1950’s, a Saint reminded the world every week that *Life is Worth Living.* In the history of America, only 2 people born here have been canonized and only 6 beatified. This is genuinely a once-in-a-lifetime event, to honor a once-in-an-era impact and we are so excited to share the experience with you!
Bus will leave and return to St. Augustine parking lot.
