Opening Intelligence
One of the greatest revelations hidden within the New Covenant is that God did not come merely to improve man.
He came to become man’s life.
The Eternal Gospel is not the story of man ascending to God through self-improvement. It is the story of God descending into man through Christ and becoming the source of all life, wisdom, righteousness, peace, and glory.
Many believers understand that Christ lives within them.
Far fewer understand the implications.
Even after the Holy Spirit begins transforming the heart, renewing the mind, purifying the conscience, and fathering the inner man, God Himself remains infinitely greater than every operation of the human soul.
This is why the Apostle John declares:
“God is greater than our heart.”
Not merely greater than our failures.
Not merely greater than our sins.
Not merely greater than our weaknesses.
Greater than our heart itself.
This statement carries profound depths of eternal wisdom.
The Great Error of Spiritual Self-Centeredness
Most Christians spend their lives being heart-conscious.
They monitor their feelings.
They analyze their emotions.
They evaluate their spiritual condition.
They measure their progress.
They inspect their maturity.
They study their faith.
They observe their obedience.
They examine their love.
They constantly look inward at themselves.
Even spiritual growth can become a subtle form of self-observation.
Yet the New Covenant was never designed to make us self-conscious.
It was designed to make us God-conscious.
The purpose of spiritual maturity is not becoming fascinated with ourselves.
It is becoming fascinated with Christ.
The purpose of transformation is not self-examination.
It is Christ-exaltation.
The purpose of sonship is not to magnify the vessel.
It is to reveal the Father dwelling within the vessel.
God Is Greater Than Your Condemnation
John begins with the most obvious application.
“If our heart condemns us…”
Every believer experiences seasons where the heart accuses.
The conscience remembers.
The emotions react.
The soul becomes troubled.
The inner man may feel weak.
The mind may feel clouded.
The heart may declare:
“You have failed.”
“You are not enough.”
“You are falling behind.”
“You should be further along.”
Yet John’s answer is breathtaking.
God is greater than your heart.
Your heart does not have final authority.
Your emotions do not sit on the throne.
Your feelings are not the judge.
Your soul is not the source.
Christ is.
The throne remains occupied by God.
The verdict of Heaven is not determined by the fluctuations of human emotion.
The verdict is determined by the finished work of Jesus Christ.
God Is Greater Than Your Spiritual Progress
The deeper revelation is even more powerful.
The heart does not only condemn.
The heart can also approve.
The heart can become pleased with itself.
The heart can become impressed with its own growth.
The heart can become fascinated with its own maturity.
The heart can secretly begin measuring itself.
This is the birthplace of spiritual pride.
The believer begins living from awareness of personal advancement rather than awareness of Christ.
Yet the same answer remains.
God is greater than your heart.
Even your best day is not the source.
Even your greatest breakthrough is not the source.
Even your deepest revelation is not the source.
Even your most glorious encounter is not the source.
The source is always God Himself.
The river never originates from the vessel.
The river originates from the throne.
The Heart Was Never Meant To Replace God
This is where many believers become subtly deceived.
The Holy Spirit renews the heart.
The Holy Spirit purifies the conscience.
The Holy Spirit writes the law upon the inward parts.
The Holy Spirit fathers the inner man.
All of this is true.
Yet the transformed heart was never intended to become an independent guidance system.
The renewed heart exists to remain connected to the greater reality of Christ Himself.
Even a renewed heart must remain surrendered.
Even a purified conscience must remain yielded.
Even spiritual sensitivity must remain submitted.
Why?
Because God remains infinitely greater than every faculty He transforms.
The branch never becomes greater than the Vine.
The vessel never becomes greater than the Glory.
The temple never becomes greater than the God who fills it.
The Mystery of Being Fully God-Inside Minded
The highest life of the believer is not self-consciousness.
It is not sin-consciousness.
It is not even heart-consciousness.
It is Christ-consciousness.
The mature overcomer lives from continual awareness of the Indwelling King.
The question shifts from:
“What is my heart saying?”
to
“What is God saying?”
The focus shifts from:
“What am I feeling?”
to
“What is Christ revealing?”
The center shifts from:
“What is happening in me?”
to
“What is happening through Him?”
This is the great liberation of sonship.
The believer ceases orbiting around self.
The believer begins orbiting around God.
The Infinite Ocean Beyond the River
One of the great mysteries of spiritual growth is this:
As the heart becomes healthier, believers sometimes begin trusting the heart more than God.
Yet every revelation received should produce the opposite effect.
The more we know God, the more we discover His endless greatness.
The heart may become a river.
But God is the ocean.
The heart may become a lamp.
But God is the sun.
The heart may become a throne room.
But God is the King who sits upon the throne.
Every encounter with Him should increase wonder.
Every revelation should increase humility.
Every advancement should produce deeper dependence.
For no matter how much glory fills the vessel, the Infinite One filling the vessel remains infinitely greater.
The Overcomer’s Secret
The overcomer does not trust in self.
The overcomer does not trust in feelings.
The overcomer does not trust in experiences.
The overcomer does not trust in growth.
The overcomer does not trust in spiritual accomplishments.
The overcomer trusts Christ.
The mature believer lives from continual dependence upon the Living God within.
This dependence is not weakness.
It is sonship.
It is not immaturity.
It is perfection.
For eternity itself will consist of creatures continually drawing life from an Infinite Source.
No one graduates from dependence.
Dependence is glory.
Dependence is union.
Dependence is the eternal design of the Kingdom.
Final Intelligence
The goal of the New Covenant is not merely to receive a better heart.
The goal is to receive God Himself.
The goal is not merely inner transformation.
The goal is divine habitation.
The goal is not merely spiritual maturity.
The goal is continual union.
The Father is indeed transforming your heart.
The Spirit is indeed renewing your mind.
Christ is indeed forming Himself within you.
But never forget:
The One doing the work remains infinitely greater than the work itself.
The Creator remains greater than the creation.
The Fountain remains greater than the stream.
The King remains greater than His kingdom within you.
Therefore lift your eyes above yourself.
Lift your eyes above your failures.
Lift your eyes above your victories.
Lift your eyes above your progress.
Lift your eyes above your heart.
And behold the One who eternally sits upon the throne within.
For God is greater than our hearts.
And He knows all things.
