My heart goes out to all who lost their lives to violence today, including Charlie Kirk. I hold their families, their children, those who witnessed the violence, and even the one who, consumed by hatred, took life today. I also hold in my broken heart of hope all who fuel hatred and violence in our world, that they turn toward nonviolence and peacefulness.
Pundits and activists will soon turn this toward their causes, some with care, some the intellect, some with cynical humor. But there is no joy to be found in these acts, or any future acts of violence these events may instigate Each being is a child of the Buddha—no matter how lost, violent, hated or hateful, confused or cut off from the way of peace and life. Every violent death is a tragedy for all of us.
“Hatred never ceases by hatred, but by love alone. This is the eternal law.”
— The Dhammapada
