The Islamic Center of Michigan City, Indiana The Islamic Center of Michigan City, Indiana is a non-profit religious foundation.

The center was first organized on April 26,1914 under the name of "The Bader Elmoneer Society of Michigan City". The founder and first president was Hussein Boudeeb Mohamed who was also the society's religious leader. In the early 1920's the Society purchased land that became the first ever Mosque built in the United States of America. The organization was then recognized as a non profit religious society in May 15,1924 under the name Asser El Jadeed Arabian Islamic Society. The center remained until 1969 when the Michigan City Redevelopment Department purchased the building as part of the Michigan City Urban Renewal Program. On October 24,1969 the Asser El Jadeed Arabian Islamic Society reorganized under its present name, The Islamic Center of Michigan City. A relocation plan was completed and purchased in 1971, the existing building that we know today.

Saturday, September 19th, we will hold a special 1-year memorial service for our beloved brother Phillip Dabagia.

This service will be held to honor Phil for his years of selfless service and dedication to our Muslim community and to the Islamic Center of Michigan City. Everyone is highly encouraged to attend.

The program will be as follows:

Saturday, September 19th

We will meet at Greenwood Cemetery for prayer facilitated by Syed Shah: 11:00am.

We will then move to the Islamic Center of Michigan City for noon prayer.

Following prayer, everyone is welcome to stay for the lunch provided by the family in his honor.

Once again, please come out to honor and pay tribute to a pillar of our community.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Sunday, August 30th In sha Allah we will celebrate Mavlid Nabavi and Mavlid Jafar (birthday of Prophet Mohammed and Imam Sadiq pbut) at the Islamic Center in Michigan City. See below for details.

* Masjid will open its doors at 11:45am.
* Recitation of the Quran will begin at 12pm.
* Quiz: 12:15pm
* Lecture by the Syed will be at 12:30pm.
* Zuhar and Asar prayers at 1pm
*Food will be potluck, and the meal will begin at approx. 1:20pm. Bring a dish to share with your fellow community members.

Please Note: Instead of regular Islamic Sunday school classes, the students will participate in an Islamic quiz.

Brothers and Sisters,

Due to the storm that came through,The mosque, along with most of the region, has no electricity and the road to the center is currently blocked off. We will NOT have any services for this Sunday August 16th and hope (InshAllah) that power will be restored soon.

Inna lillah wa inna eelayhi rajeoun.

Brother Ray Jarvis, who was a member of the Islamic Center until he moved away, has passed. Ray was also the husband of Ahdea (Diane) Abraham Jarvis. The funeral will be this Friday, August 7th, and will be held at the Islamic Center in Michigan City.

The schedule will be as follows:

Visitation: 9:00-10:00 am at the Islamic Center in Michigan City

Funeral Service and Salat al-Janazza: 10:00-11:00 am.

Cemetery Services: Greenwood Cemetery: 11:00 am.

After the cemetery services we will return to the Islamic Center for Friday Prayer and a luncheon at 1:00 pm.

As a reminder, we will have no regular Sunday services tomorrow, Sunday, June 20th. But we will still hold our Sunday night Ashoora services.

Doors open: 8:30 pm
* Prayers: 8:40 pm
* Majlis: 9:00 pm
* Refreshments/To-Go Meals:10:00

Doors will open approximately 15 minutes prior to Salat Al-Maghrib. Upon the conclusion of the Maghrib and Isha prayers, the Majlis Ashoora will take place. Following the Majlis, coffee and tea will be available. A reminder that food will be “to go” during the days of Ashoora.

Looking ahead to the 10th day of Ashoora, which will be Thursday, June 25th. Please see the details for the program below. The Ashoora program begins tonight, June 16th, at the Islamic Center of Michigan City.

Below is an approximate timing for the daily Ashoora program…

*Doors open: 8:30 pm
* Prayers: 8:40 pm
* Majlis: 9:00 pm
* Refreshments/To-Go Meals: 10:00

Doors will open approximately 15 minutes prior to Salat Al-Maghrib. Upon the conclusion of the Maghrib and Isha prayers, the Majlis Ashoora will take place. Following the Majlis, coffee and tea will be available.

A reminder that food will be “to go” during the days of Ashoora.In regard to the food preparation, a reminder that we are preparing the food to honor and commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) during the upcoming days.

We kindly encourage everyone to sign up for food preparation. Since this will be a to-go distribution, there is no need to prepare large quantities or elaborate dishes. Something small and simple is more than sufficient. Please consider signing up for 1-2 days if possible.

I would like to inform you that In sha Allah we will celebrate Eid Mubahla on Sunday June 14th at 12 pm .

I humbly request you to join us to celebrate the big victory of Ahlul Bait (as) on the 24th of Zilhijja when Prophet Mohammed pbuh took Imam Ali, Syyeda Zahra, imam Hasan and imam Husain for mubahla with Ahlul kitab ( the people of scripture)

Due to the Michigan City graduation day, we will NOT be having regular Sunday services this weekend. We will resume at normal hours/schedule next week.

Our Eid celebration was a success! The community came together to honor our fellow graduates, and everyone got to enjoy a meal with their community members. Be on the lookout for photos and highlights of the event soon on our page.
