Today starts the season of Advent. Advent is a time of waiting for the arrival of Christ or Christmas. The story of Christ's birth is one of promise, hope, and revolutionary love.
So, what happened? What was once a time to celebrate the birth of a Savior has somehow turned into a season of stress, traffic jams, and shopping lists. When it's all over, many of us are left with presents to return, looming debt that will take months to pay off, and this empty feeling of missed purpose. Is this what we really want out of Christmas?
What if Christmas became a world-changing event again?
We created this Advent calendar for you, and we genuinely hope you can find a way to use it to slow down the fast-paced hustle that Christmas has become and capture each day with your family. This is not a checklist or a to-do list; that would defeat the purpose! If some of the ideas won't work for you or your family, come up with creative ideas of your own, or just take the day to rest!
Many activities are just plain old-fashioned fun that will help you spend quality time together. We hope some of the other events will remind you and/or your children of the true meaning of Christmas. We also think it's important this time of year to focus on others: those we love and those who may need a little extra help.
