To the Freedom Church Family,
As your Pastor, I address you today with both the weight of grief and the responsibility to speak truth with grace. It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that the family and decision-makers regarding our beloved Pastor Johnny Marshall have chosen not to hold any public services in his honor. There will be no viewing, no wake, no homegoing service, and no repass. They have decided to move forward privately.
While we respect the family’s wishes, Freedom Church Miami will honor the man, the legacy, and the life of Pastor Johnny Marshall in the way we knew him—loud, loving, joyful, and Jesus-centered.
This Sunday at 10AM, we will celebrate his transition from earth to glory, Freedom style. I’m asking every one of you to wear brown, one of Pastor Marshall’s favorite colors, and come ready to share memories, moments, and love.
We are extending an invitation to all of Pastor Marshall’s family, friends, and loved ones to join us in worship. For those who would like to speak and share a memory during our “As I Knew Him” moment, please email us at [email protected]
to register. Only pre-registered speakers will be permitted to have words.
For those who’ve asked how they can help, Sis. Carolyn Harris will coordinate any additional items, such as refreshments or fellowship, after the service.
I may not understand all the decisions made, but I do know this—we are not in control. What we are in control of is how we love, how we honor, and how we stand together as a church family. So let's show up and do it big. Let's celebrate our Pastor the way he would’ve wanted—with passion, praise, and the presence of God.
I love you. I’ll see you Sunday.
In Jesus' name,
+ Bishop Derek A. Tillman II
Lead Pastor, Freedom Church Miami
