Awana Mississippi is the official page for making known the Awana ministry within the state of Mississippi. TJ didn’t grow up in a Christian home, so he didn’t attend church regularly. At the age of 28, a pastor came to TJ’s home in July 1991 and shared the Gospel of Jesus Christ with him. While the pastor was there, he and his wife, at the time prayed to receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Sav
ior, then began working in that church, Awana Club.
In 1998, their family was called by God to step out on faith to serve full-time in Christian ministry and completed the necessary training to become Awana Missionaries. TJ, his wife, and their four children began serving in February 2000 in Mississippi and Western Tennessee. TJ's wife tragically passed away in early 2008. Kathy did grow up in a Christian home, but she did not become a Christian until 1988 in her college years at Southern Mississippi University. Kathy and TJ met in the summer of 2008 and were married in February of 2009. They have a little boy named Jonas Robertson Sipes who really enjoys playing football and would love to play in the NFL one day; Jonas was born on August 20, 2010. The Sipes’ also have five grandchildren from ages 12, 10, 9, 7 & 1 years old. Before marrying TJ, Kathy was a nurse for 18 years and traveled overseas on five medical missions trips. She has been to India, Belize, Jamaica, and South Africa and has a strong passion for AwanaGO and international missions. TJ and Kathy live in Ecru, MS, and serve more than 132 churches in Mississippi and Western Tennessee.
