We are honored to highlight an incredible mom, Danielle, and advocate whose journey through postpartum eclampsia turned into a mission of hope and support for others. What began as a personal challenge has grown into a powerful testimony of resilience and community. Through her work with the Preeclampsia Foundation and her leadership at Discover Life Church, she continues to empower and uplift moms with knowledge, strength, and faith.
Now, we’re excited for you to hear her story:
“My preeclampsia journey began in 2013 after my daughter Leah was born. Five days after delivery, while I was at home, I started to have alarming symptoms – a severe headache that didn’t go away, swelling, and vision changes. Initially, I chalked it up to normal postpartum symptoms and a migraine…until I experienced two unexpected seizures.
A call to my OB sent me to the emergency department, where I was diagnosed and treated for postpartum eclampsia, a life-threatening complication that caused seizures due to high blood pressure after delivery.
I did not have preeclampsia during pregnancy and had no knowledge of signs and symptoms or that it could happen after delivery. I was seemingly at low risk for preeclampsia, though there were warning signs like the fact that my daughter was small for gestational age. I could never have imagined I would be spending over a week in the hospital fighting to prevent seizures and control my blood pressure instead of spending that time resting at home with my newborn daughter.
Seeking more information about my traumatic pregnancy experience, I turned to the Preeclampsia Foundation as a source of hope, information, and support. Since then, I’ve continued to volunteer, give, advocate, and now work for this fantastic organization.
Before the Preeclampsia Foundation, I felt so alone. Every day, over 800 families face a similar journey. For them, “tomorrow” becomes a word heavy with fear and uncertainty as they receive a diagnosis like mine. In an instant, their future becomes unknown. They must confront the risks of life-threatening complications they never anticipated. In their search for answers, families find hope like I did in the Preeclampsia Foundation.
As a single mom, I understand how important support and education can be to new moms. This is why I am involved in the Community Baby Shower. Our support creates a light in the darkness, a place for compassion, community, and courage to face the unknown. As the Preeclampsia Foundation celebrates 25 years of advocacy and progress, the organization continues to raise awareness and make strides in improving the lives of those impacted by preeclampsia.
I also lead a small group for single moms at Discover Life Church called single mom strong God. We have an amazing community of women who do life together.”
