This Sunday in River Kids we shared about Jesus eating and visiting with the disciples from Luke 24:36-53.
“After Jesus was resurrected, He spent time teaching His disciples about the Bible. Remember last week when we talked about two disciples walking down a road and Jesus started walking with them? While they were walking, Jesus explained truths to them from the Bible. Jesus taught His disciples and helped them understand the Bible better. Luke 24:44-45 says, “He told them, ‘These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you—that everything written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms must be fulfilled.’ Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.” When Jesus was on the earth, the New Testament had not yet been written. So the only part of the Bible that existed was what we call today the Old Testament. The Jewish people thought about the Scriptures written before Jesus was born in three large groups or collections of books—the Law (the first five books, written by Moses), the Prophets (Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, Daniel, and the 12 Minor Prophets), and the Writings (the Psalms and all the other books). So when Luke mentioned the “Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms,” he was really talking about all of the Bible. The whole Bible is about Jesus and God’s great plan to be with His people. When Jesus was on the earth, people could see Him, touch Him, and hear Him speak. If someone wanted to get to know Jesus, he could spend time with Him. Now, Jesus has returned to heaven. We cannot see Him or hear Him speak, but we can still get to know Jesus. Since the whole Bible is about Jesus, if you want to get to know Him better, all you have to do is read the Bible. The more time you spend reading God’s Word, the more you will learn about God. This will help you grow in love for God and godliness.”
