The Book of Titus teaches that Jesus is the kindness of God and He is the Savior. Jesus mercifully came to bring salvation for all people.
During his journeys, Paul shared the gospel with and taught other young men to be leaders in the church. Titus was one of these men. Titus had traveled with Paul, delivered letters for Paul, and was assigned by Paul to help the believers on the island of Crete. Paul instructed Titus on how to help organize and choose leaders for the churches on the island of Crete. The churches needed leaders who could teach the truth about Jesus.Paul wrote to Titus, “The grace of God has brought the message of salvation to all people. It instructs us to reject sin and temptations. It teaches us to live our lives in a godly way. We do this while we wait for Jesus, our Savior, to appear. He gave Himself to redeem us as a people eager to do good. Tell these things to the people, Titus, and do not let them ignore you.”Paul continued, “Remind everyone to respect and obey their leaders. To be ready for every good work. To not lie about others. To avoid fighting. To be kind and gentle to all people. Remember that we were once disobedient and hateful to God. But when the goodness and love of God (Jesus) appeared, He saved us. Not because of anything we had done. He saved us because of His mercy. Then He gave us His Holy Spirit. Through the grace of Jesus, we have been declared righteous. We have become heirs with the hope of eternal life with Jesus.

This Sunday, River Kids heard about Paul's second letter to Timothy. Paul was put in prison for preaching the truth about Jesus. While in prison, Paul wrote letters to churches and leaders to encourage them in their faith. One of the people Paul wrote to was Timothy. “Timothy, my dear son. I thank God for you when I pray. I wish I could visit with you again. I remember your faith as a young man. You learned the truth of Jesus from your grandmother Lois. Remember Timothy, to continue serving God because He has not given us a spirit of fear. God has given us a spirit of power, love, and sound judgment. Do not be ashamed of Jesus. Remember, God has saved us and called us to live a holy life. This is not because of our good deeds or actions. It is because of God’s own grace which was given to us through Jesus before time began. Jesus has defeated death and brought life through the gospel. ”Paul understood that sometimes, as a Christian, we suffer. He said, “I may be tied up like a criminal, but God’s Word is not tied up. I have been hurt because of my faith, but God has rescued me. Everyone who wants to live a life for Jesus will face tough times. Evil people and those who teach lies about God will become worse and worse. I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. ”Paul encouraged Timothy to stay true to his faith in Jesus, “Continue to live what you believe. You have been taught the Scriptures since you were a child. They will give you wisdom to understand salvation through faith in Jesus. All Scripture comes from God. It is good for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, and for training people in righteousness so all believers can be prepared.

But you, Timothy, are a man of God; so run from all these evil things. Pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness. 1 Tim. 6:11

Ask God to help you to live with integrity and to pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness.

In 1 Timothy 2:1-2, Paul instructed believers to pray for those in authority. Spend time this morning praying for people who have authority over you (parents, teachers, principals, bosses, elected officials, and so on.) Ask God to give them grace and wisdom.

This Sunday River Kids were given an overview to the book of 1 Timothy. We learned that Paul traveled from town to town telling people about the good news of Jesus. In some of the towns, the people believed and churches were started. On one of his journeys, Paul traveled to the town of Ephesus. When he left, he had one of his friends, Timothy, stay to help the church. Later, Paul wrote a letter to the church and Timothy. Paul encouraged Timothy to stay longer in Ephesus and help the people understand the truth about Jesus.Paul reminded Timothy of the past, when Paul was not a believer. Paul wrote, “I thank Jesus who has given me strength. I was a prideful man who did not believe in Jesus. But Jesus came into the world to save sinners. And I am the worst sinner. I was given mercy so that Jesus could show how patient He is.” Paul also wanted the church to understand that if they believed in the gospel then their actions would be different. “First,” Paul wrote, “Prayer should be important. Pray for everyone. Pray for those in charge. This pleases God, who wants everyone to be saved.”Paul shared some very important truths about God and Jesus, “There is one God. There is one mediator between God and people. Jesus, who was human, gave Himself. He was a ransom (the price paid) for all people to have forgiveness.” Paul also gave Timothy instructions to help encourage Timothy to keep serving Jesus. He told Timothy to teach the people the truth. He encouraged Timothy not to let other people look down on Timothy because of his age. Timothy should be an example to others in his words, actions, love, faith, and purity. Finally, Paul explained that the Christian life is like a battle. Timothy must run away from sin. He must seek righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness. “Fight the good fight of the faith,” Paul wrote to Timothy.

This Sunday in River Kids we shared about Jesus eating and visiting with the disciples from Luke 24:36-53.

“After Jesus was resurrected, He spent time teaching His disciples about the Bible. Remember last week when we talked about two disciples walking down a road and Jesus started walking with them? While they were walking, Jesus explained truths to them from the Bible. Jesus taught His disciples and helped them understand the Bible better. Luke 24:44-45 says, “He told them, ‘These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you—that everything written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms must be fulfilled.’ Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.” When Jesus was on the earth, the New Testament had not yet been written. So the only part of the Bible that existed was what we call today the Old Testament. The Jewish people thought about the Scriptures written before Jesus was born in three large groups or collections of books—the Law (the first five books, written by Moses), the Prophets (Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, Daniel, and the 12 Minor Prophets), and the Writings (the Psalms and all the other books). So when Luke mentioned the “Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms,” he was really talking about all of the Bible. The whole Bible is about Jesus and God’s great plan to be with His people. When Jesus was on the earth, people could see Him, touch Him, and hear Him speak. If someone wanted to get to know Jesus, he could spend time with Him. Now, Jesus has returned to heaven. We cannot see Him or hear Him speak, but we can still get to know Jesus. Since the whole Bible is about Jesus, if you want to get to know Him better, all you have to do is read the Bible. The more time you spend reading God’s Word, the more you will learn about God. This will help you grow in love for God and godliness.”
