On the 3rd ballot, the Convention of the Diocese of Southwestern Virginia elected The Rev. Karin MacPhail to be our 7th Bishop! We give thanks for the guiding presence of the Holy Spirit in the life of this diocese.

Reminder: Inclement Weather Updates
Dear Friends in Christ,

🥶 Unfortunately, the storm may have passed but the ice seems to be sticking around. At this time, neither church driveways or parking lots have been plowed due to a 2+ inch sheet of ice that the tractors cannot break. Based on current forecasted temps and a chance of snow again on Saturday, it does not seem feasible that our lots and driveways will be safely navigable by Sunday morning.

👉 That being said, out of concern for everyone's safety, in-person worship has been cancelled for this Sunday, February 1st. Neither St Mark's Clifford nor Grace Massies Mill will meet in person this Sunday. There will be no Thankful Thursday at Grace today, and visits to the churches are discouraged at this time.

The Diocesan Convention to elect our 7th Bishop will be proceeding as scheduled, including a livestreamed worship service 10 am on Sunday morning. I would like to encourage all of you to join in that livestream from the safety and warmth of your homes as we will be celebrating a completed election and praying together for that person who has been chosen to lead us.

I have already heard about at least two falls on ice from members of our community. Everyone is okay, but I hope we can keep that number from growing. Please use caution, stay off the ice and snow as much as possible, wear good shoes, and use mobility aids if you have them. If you are not able to clear your own walkway and need assistance getting to an appointment, or if you could use some groceries or other supplies delivered, please reach out to me or a member of your parish. We are all in this together!

❄️ New Weather Update! In-Person Worship Cancelled - But we will have online Worship at 10:30 am 1/25/26

Due to predicted inclement weather, there will be NO in-person worship at Grace Massies Mill or St Mark's Clifford on Sunday 1/25/26. We will gather on Zoom at 10:30 am (see link below) for a service of Morning Prayer with a sermon by guest preacher Rev. Gail Goldsmith, Rector of Trinity Lynchburg. We have invited the members of Trinity Lynchburg, Trinity Arrington, Grace Memorial Lynchburg, Ascension Amherst, and St Paul's Bear Mountain to join us in worship.

The Zoom room will open at 10:00 am for those who would like to check in before we begin the liturgy and will remain open for 1 hour after the liturgy for those who would like to attend a virtual coffee hour.

Anyone who would like to gather for worship from the safety (and hopefully warmth!) of their homes are welcome, so please pass on the invitation to others.

🕯️Candlelight Ministries Food Distribution is CANCELLED for Monday January 26th as well, with a tentative reschedule date of Wednesday January 28th.

🌨️ Our monthly Food Pantry with Candlelight Ministries has been cancelled for Monday January 26th due to inclement weather. We are so sorry to cancel, as we know that many rely on this monthly offering. We must take the safety of our volunteers and pantry staff into consideration.

🍽️ Our free weekly meal tonight begins at 6 and you are always invited. We will be stocking up the Blessings Pantry on our driveway ahead of the weekend - please take what you need and leave what you can to ensure that everyone has enough.🙏

❄️ Inclement Weather Notice ❄️
As of this writing (1/20/26), a severe winter storm is predicted to hit our area this weekend. They're calling for between 8"-20" of snow, but of course things might look very different by Friday.

*IF* worship is to be cancelled for snow, that decision will be made and announced NO LATER than noon on Saturday. In the event of cancellation, an online service will take place via Zoom for both parishes at 10 am on Sunday.

That decision will be announced by email, social media, and local news. If you do not hear anything, you can assume that worship will happen on our normal schedule.

In the event of a cancellation, those without an electronic form of communication will be contacted by phone, but your assistance will go a long way in getting the word out to our community. In the meantime, please make necessary preparations and stay safe!
