The Jewish Federation of New Hampshire is deeply disturbed by today’s attack at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield Township, Michigan, which also houses a Jewish school and early childhood center.

We are relieved that, according to current reports, no children or congregants appear to have been seriously harmed, though a security officer was injured while protecting the community.

Our hearts are with the congregation of Temple Israel, the students and families connected to the school, and the entire Detroit-area Jewish community. Synagogues and Jewish schools are sacred spaces for prayer, learning, and community. Violence directed at these spaces is an attack on the fundamental right to gather safely in one’s faith.

This moment is also a reminder of how antisemitism expressed online and in public discourse can escalate into real-world violence.

We stand in solidarity with the Michigan Jewish community.

We are thrilled to announce that Cantor Harriet Dunkerley will be the next spiritual leader of Temple Adath Yeshurun, beginning in July! As we celebrate Rabbi Beth Davidson’s well-deserved retirement and the many years of devoted leadership she has given our community, we look ahead with excitement to the next chapter at TAY. Please join us in warmly welcoming Cantor Dunkerley!

Tonight, as we welcome the beginning of Purim, we are reminded that this holiday tells a story of courage in uncertain times. A story of a people who faced fear, spoke up with moral clarity, and found strength in unity.

This year, Purim arrives during a moment of deep global tension as conflict unfolds between Israel, the United States, and Iran. Many in our community are feeling a mix of concern, uncertainty, and hope. Our hearts are with all those affected by violence, we pray for the safety of civilians, for wisdom among leaders, and for a path toward a just and lasting peace.

Purim teaches us that even in moments when the future feels unclear, we do not face challenges alone. We gather, we support one another, and we reaffirm our shared responsibility to care for our community and stand against hatred.

As we celebrate through tradition, laughter, and connection, may we also hold space for reflection, compassion, and solidarity.

Three dozen congregation members continued our Brotherhood’s 40th annual Christmas Mitzvah program by:
- Delivering food to local police and fire stations
- Bringing pies and cookies to veterans living in the Community Living Center at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Manchester
- Staffing the information desk at Elliot Hospital and Health System

This year's activities were in honor of the program’s longtime chair, Dr. Sol Rockenmacher, who passed away Nov. 8, 2025. Sol, and his wife, Linda, led the program for many years.
