As we continue our study through the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus tells us to beware of false prophets who come in sheep’s clothing. The apostle John tells us the signs of an unfaithful/faithful teacher which helps us know how to spot the wolves
1) A growing esteem for Jesus
Do the teachers present Christ, the true Christ, and all of him? Do they do so regularly? Is Christ wonderful and to be worshipped, or an afterthought? True messengers of God will promote Christ first and foremost
2) opposition to Satan’s Kingdom
We oppose Satan’s kingdom personally through repentance. Do these teachers repent of their own sin? Do they call you to repentance?
3) Devotion to the Word of God
Are the teachers committed to teaching the word of God, or their own agenda? Does God’s word set the agenda for the teaching, or does something else?
4) Growing interest in theology
While similar to above, is there a desire to know more of God and who he is, what he has done, and what he will do?
5) Genuine love for God and neighbor
Do the teachers love the sheep, or are they focused on self interests? Do they appear to actually love God, or their platform?
