(Psalms 31:1—24) How great is Your Goodness (the goodness of our God and our Father).
Tehillim (Psalms 31:1-25 CJB)
[1] For the leader. A psalm of David:
[2] In you, Adonai, I take refuge; let me never be put to shame; in your justice, save me!
[3] Turn your ear toward me, come quickly to my rescue, be for me a rock of strength, a fortress to keep me safe.
[4] Since you are my rock and fortress, lead me and guide me for your name’s sake.
[5] Free me from the net they have hidden to catch me, because you are my strength.
Psalms 31:1- TPT
How Great Is Your Goodness...For the Pure and Shining One... A song of poetic praise by King David...
[1] I trust you, Lord, to be my hiding place. Don’t let me down. Don’t let my enemies bring me to shame. Come and rescue me, for you are the only God who always does what is right.
[2] Rescue me quickly when I cry out to you. At the sound of my prayer may your ear be turned to me. Be my strong shelter and hiding place on high. Pull me into victory and breakthrough.
[3-4] For you are my high fortress, where I’m kept safe. You are to me a stronghold of salvation. When you deliver me out of this peril, it will bring glory to your name. As you guide me forth I’ll be kept safe from the hidden snares of the enemy— the secret traps that lie before me— for you have become my rock of strength.
As I awoke this morning, one song stayed with me all through my devotional time with our Father. It is the same one that our Father used to calm the storms and to shield me amid the chaos over the last month and a ½. When one song from the world would try and torment me, this is the song that our God would use to silence the voices of the world. It is the modern-day version of this ancient Psalms written by one that though imperfect in life, was truly a man after our Father’s own heart. He (David) knew the value of completely loosing himself in the presence of our God/Elohim. He understood the importance of surrender, of devotion, of dependance upon, of a child like faith and trust in the one truth God/El. Of understanding that even the hopes of man, can only be found in Him alone. That even all the promises given (both corporate covenant and personal/individual) only come to pass by His power, in His time, and through HIs hope and love (not ours, or by our strength or wisdom), THANK GOD!!!
In the 1st stanza in the Psalms as well as the song speaks of His glory, power, majesty being on display for all to see, feel and witness...
How Great Thou Art..
Oh Lord my God
When I, in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder...
Then, as if directed by an experienced director of music, the chorus sets the tempo for the next stanza.
Free me from the net they have hidden to catch me, because you are my strength. (CJB)
As you guide me forth, I’ll be kept safe from the hidden snares of the enemy— the secret traps that lie before me— for you have become my rock of strength. (TPT)
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art....
[6] Into your hand I commit my spirit; you will redeem me, Adonai, God of truth.
[7] I hate those who serve worthless idols; as for me, I trust in Adonai.
[8] I will rejoice and be glad in your grace, for you see my affliction, you know how distressed I am.
[9] You did not hand me over to the enemy; you set my feet where I can move freely. (CJB)
Psalms 31:5-8 TPT
[5] Into your hands I now entrust my spirit. O Lord, the God of faithfulness, you have rescued and redeemed me.
[6] I despise these deceptive illusions, all this pretense and nonsense, for I worship only you.
[7] In mercy you have seen my troubles, and you have cared for me; even during this crisis in my soul I will be radiant with joy, filled with praise for your love and mercy.
[8] You have kept me from being conquered by my enemy; you broke open the way to bring me to freedom, into a beautiful, broad place.
Look closely at the very 1st verse of this section of the Psalm that David pinned. Into thy hands do I commit my spirit; you will redeem me, Adonai (CJB)... Into your hands I now entrust my spirit. O Lord, the God of faithfulness, you have rescued and redeemed me. (TPT)...
Within those words written by David we find the words of our Messiah while on the cross. It is recorded as the last words He spoke before dying for His bride. In hope that she would become free to walk with Him in the garden of paradise. To rejoice on the mountain tops as the 2 enjoy the bliss of intimacy that only Christ and His Bride can fully understand. The picture of what our Father designed from the beginning when He created man and woman. Man of God, what are you willing to do in order to bring this to you wife even within this life given you? As for me, it has already been decided, I understand the cost more now, because He has opened my eyes to many more hidden secrets that join the 2 into 1.
And when I think that God, His Son not sparing
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in
That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing
He bled and died to take away my sin...
You set my feet where I can move freely (CJB)... You broke open the way to bring me to f Thou art, freedom, into a beautiful, broad place...(TPT)
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great thou art, how great Thou art
[10] Show me favor, Adonai, for I am in trouble. My eyes grow dim with anger, my soul and body as well.
[11] For my life is worn out with sorrow and my years with sighing; my strength gives out under my guilt, and my bones are wasting away.
[12] I am scorned by all my adversaries, and even more by my neighbors; even to acquaintances I am an object of fear — when they see me in the street, they turn away from me.
[13] Like a dead man, I have passed from their minds; I have become like a broken pot.
[14] All I hear is whispering, terror is all around me; they plot together against me, scheming to take my life.
[15] But I, I trust in you, Adonai; I say, “You are my God.”
Psalms 31:9-14 TPT
[9] O Lord, help me again! Keep showing me such mercy. For I am in anguish, always in tears, and I’m worn out with weeping. I’m becoming old because of grief; my health is broken.
[10] I’m exhausted! My life is spent with sorrow, my years with sighing and sadness. Because of all these troubles, I have no more strength. My inner being is so weak and frail.
[11] My enemies say, “You are nothing!” Even my friends and neighbors hold me in contempt! They dread seeing me, and they look the other way when I pass by.
[12] I am totally forgotten, buried away like a dead man, discarded like a broken dish thrown in the trash.
[13] I overheard their whispered threats, the slander of my enemies. I’m terrified as they plot and scheme to take my life.
[14] I’m desperate, Lord! I throw myself upon you, for you alone are my God!
It is during the final conflict (the closing arguments) that true faith is tested and judged by our Father. Where is your hope placed within your heart towards the promises given to you, old man? What have you placed the eternity of your soul upon when standing in the presence of the King of kings and Lord of lords. Faith justifies, works verify... Hope glorifies, steadfastness testifies... Love covers, while compassion strengthens... Mercy releases, while Grace impowers...
Show me favor Adonai, for I am in trouble...(CJB) Lord help me again! Keep showing me such mercy...(TPT)
When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration
And then proclaim, my God, how great Thou art
It is in the darkest of times that we turn loose of what is temporary in this life. It is in the darkest of times that we find what truly matters in life. We also find both hidden idols within our hearts, as well as hidden treasures given by a gracious Father that loves His children. Husbands, the greatest treasure you will even be given is your wife (a daughter of the living God)... Wives, the greatest blessing and covering you will ever receive from your Father is the husband (a son of the living God)... that truly has eyes only for you within this world.
[15] But I, I trust in you, Adonai; I say, “You are my God.” (CJB)
[14] I’m desperate, Lord! I throw myself upon you, for you alone are my God! (TPT)
And then proclaim, my God, how great Thou art
Man of God! What are you proclaiming as you stand in the midst of your battle. For too many years I spoke words that destroyed, while in the midst of my battle to overcome. Don’t make the same mistake that keeps destroying what you and our Father work to bring to harvest. Thankfully I have overcome in Him what I failed to overcome within my flesh.
[16] My times are in your hand; rescue me from my enemies’ power, from those who persecute me.
[17] Make your face shine on your servant; in your grace, save me.
[18] Adonai, don’t let me be put to shame, for I have called on you; let the wicked be put to shame, let them be silenced in Sh’ol.
[19] May lying lips be struck dumb, that speak insolently against the righteous with such pride and contempt.
[20] But oh, how great is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you, which you do for those who take refuge in you, before people’s very eyes! (CJB)
Psalms 31:15-19 TPT
[15] My life, my every moment, my destiny—it’s all in your hands. So I know you can deliver me from those who persecute me relentlessly.
[16] Smile on me, your servant. Let your undying love and glorious grace save me from all this gloom.
[17] As I call upon you, let my shame and disgrace be replaced by your favor once again. But let shame and disgrace fall instead upon the wicked— those going to their own doom, drifting down in silence to the dust of death.
[18] At last their lying lips will be muted in their graves. For they are arrogant, filled with contempt and conceit as they speak against the godly.
[19] Lord, how wonderful you are! You have stored up so many good things for us, like a treasure chest heaped up and spilling over with blessings— all for those who honor and worship you! Everybody knows what you can do for those who turn and hide themselves in you.
What is you personal bridge within the song of your heart? What has our Father placed within you that causes you to sing of His goodness, His glory, His faithfulness, His love, of all that He is to you within your heart. If you will sing that bridge in the times of your greatest test and darkest of days. I promise without fail our Father will show up and show out on your behalf.
For me it was the need to know that even when things seemed to go against all He had promised. His promises where right there in HIs hands waiting for me to sing.
Let me stand in Your Presence
Let me behold Your Lamb.
Let me sing of Your glory
And worship the great I Am.
For in Your presence,
I find peace untold
In Your presence
I’m complete
And made whole.
Let me stand in Your presence Lord
Let me stand and worship the one I adore.
Of all the gifts...
You’ve given me...
My greatest treasure...
is to worship You, my King...
[21] In the shelter of your presence you hide them from human plots, you conceal them in your shelter, safe from contentious tongues.
[22] Blessed be Adonai! For he has shown me his amazing grace when I was in a city under siege.
[23] As for me, in my alarm I said, “I have been cut off from your sight!” Nevertheless, you heard my pleas when I cried out to you.
[24] Love Adonai, you faithful of his. Adonai preserves the loyal, but the proud he repays in full.
[25] Be strong, and fill your hearts with courage, all of you who hope in Adonai.
Psalms 31:20-24 TPT
[20] So hide all your beloved ones in the sheltered, secret place before your face. Overshadow them with your glory-presence. Keep them from these accusations, the brutal insults of evil men. Tuck them safely away in the tabernacle where you dwell.
[21] The name of the Lord is blessed and lifted high! For his marvelous miracle of mercy protected me when I was overwhelmed by my enemies.
[22] I spoke hastily when I said, “The Lord has deserted me.” For in truth, you did hear my prayer and came to rescue me.
[23] Listen to me, all you godly ones: Love the Lord with passion! The Lord protects and preserves all those who are loyal to him. But he pays back in full all those who reject him in their pride.
[24] So cheer up! Take courage, all you who love him. Wait for him to break through for you, all who trust in him!
And so now I ask you old man, what is your outro (coda)? What continues to bring joy to your heart after the song comes to an end?
What are the words that keep repeating within your heart that line up with the hope you have in Christ?
Do they bring you glory? Or do they bring our Father and HIs Son glory?
In Him alone is my trust, In Him alone is my hope found. For you see,
He is the one that came down to hear
my cries in the darkness, and He calmed all my fears.
He lit a light along my path,
And said walk therein
And be free at lasts.
Let the rocks be silent
Let the birds not sing
Let all of creation
Listen as i sing
Praise to my Lord,
Praises to my King.
Yes, let the Rock be silent
Let the birds not sing.
But let my brothers an sisters
Join me as we sing.
Praises to our Lord
Praises to our King.
Let us stand in Your presence Lord
Let us stand and worship the one we adore.
Of all the gifts You have given to us.
Let our greatest treasure be
To worship You our King.
May the Lord bless you and keep you, may He cause His marvelous light shine upon your path. And may His presence always prepare your heart to receive greater today than you received yesterday.
Much Love
Brother Nathan
