“David is a king. He’s the CEO of the nation. He’s the commander-in-chief of the military forces of Israel. Yet they’re all in a desperate place. All around him are powerful enemies and relentless opposition.

And in this desperate place, David lifts his eyes to the Lord. He doesn’t talk to his enemies; he talks to the Lord. And he has just one request to ask of the Lord.

Think about him. He’s a powerful man. He has a lot of contacts. He knows a lot of people. He has a lot of resources at his disposal. So if he has just one request, what do you think he might ask for? Victory over his enemies? An effective battle plan? For God to make his problems go away? A way to escape his problems?

What would you have asked for if you were in his position?

David says:
‘One thing have I asked of the LORD,
that will I seek after:
that I may dwell in the house of the LORD
all the days of my life,
to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD
and to inquire in His temple.’

He says, ‘This is the number one priority of my life.’ This is the one thing he will earnestly seek and pursue, the one thing on which he will focus his efforts and attention.

He’s saying, essentially, ‘Lord, if You don’t give me anything else, please give me this one thing...to live in the presence of the Lord.’”

No matter what you’re facing, true confidence and peace aren’t found in changed circumstances, but in drawing near to the Lord!

“If we want to avoid being “unwise” and “foolish,” we need to know our God and what he requires. As Proverbs explains, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction” (1:7).”

"If you’re in a waiting season when your “branches” feel bare, take heart. The Lord is the faithful Gardener, attentively keeping watch over you.

We can fully entrust ourselves into His hands with every change of season.

When He prunes a branch—taking away opportunities or allowing us to be stripped of strength—we can rest in knowing that He created us and cares more about our flourishing than we ever could.

We can know, without a doubt, that whether we’re in a season of blooming or bareness, God can use it all to display His life in and through us."

Friends, in seasons when our “branches” are dormant and bare, the beauty of Christ can still shine brilliantly through our lives.

Jeremiah 17:7 (ESV)

05/24/2026

If God can open any door at any time, why does he sometimes keep us knocking for so long?

God sometimes delays because he delights in the prayers of his children, he wants to try our faith, and he wants to make the answer so much the sweeter.

Persistent prayer dies under the lie that God doesn’t like to give good things. He does like to give good things. So, keep asking, keep seeking, keep knocking. Your Father invites you to do so. And if he says no, he will only give you something better.
